A Journey Begins with a Dream: “Making IELTS Accessible to All Vietnamese”
In 2016, IELTS Fighter was established with a clear vision: to make IELTS accessible to all Vietnamese learners. This dream was shared by co-founders Nguyen Thi Hoa and Nguyen Thi Giang, passionate educators who had previously built the successful Ms. Hoa TOEIC brand. IELTS Fighter marked a new chapter in their journey of inspiring and empowering Vietnamese students to conquer the English language.
“The idea for IELTS Fighter came from a conversation with a friend,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang. “He told me he had spent nearly 100 million VND on IELTS preparation. It struck me that only those from privileged backgrounds could afford to attend IELTS classes.” From this realization, Ms. Giang’s desire to make IELTS preparation accessible to all was born.
IELTS Fighter aimed to offer high-quality courses at affordable prices, ensuring that anyone with the drive and determination to learn could access the necessary resources. “I want to show people that learning IELTS is not difficult and that it is within everyone’s reach,” Ms. Giang asserted. “IELTS Fighter was created to turn this dream into a reality.”
From its inception, IELTS Fighter has consistently delivered value. The organization has shared valuable academic content through its online learning platforms and initiated community projects that spread the “IELTS Fighter” spirit, inspiring English learners nationwide.
Introducing RIPL: A Testament to Innovation and Excellence in Teaching
Over the past eight years, driven by the desire to address the challenges faced by English learners, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa and her team have made significant strides in teaching methodologies. The culmination of these efforts is the RIPL teaching method, introduced in 2021, which marked a pivotal moment in enhancing the learning experience and improving outcomes.
According to Ms. Hoa, the traditional teacher-centric approach to language learning, prevalent among generations of Vietnamese students, often resulted in passive learning and limited opportunities for interaction and language practice in the classroom. Additionally, a heavy focus on grammar could be daunting and demotivating for many students, leading to a sense of drudgery when approaching the English language.
To address these concerns, the IELTS Fighter training team, led by Ms. Hoa, dedicated hundreds of hours to research and development, ultimately giving birth to the RIPL method. RIPL stands for Refined Knowledge, Inspiration, Practice, and Logic—four pillars that form the foundation of this innovative teaching approach.
RIPL is implemented consistently across all IELTS Fighter classes.
“RIPL emphasizes the interaction between teachers and students, encouraging active learning and the balanced development of all four language skills,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa explained. “Each pillar is comprised of distinct teaching techniques and formulas, empowering learners to master academic English and achieve their desired IELTS scores.”
The “Refined Knowledge” pillar embodies the principle of “teaching only what learners need, not everything the English language encompasses.” IELTS Fighter has developed a system of concise and memorable formulas, ensuring that students can effectively apply their knowledge.
To inspire and motivate learners, teachers utilize a set of techniques that involve asking questions, providing praise, and encouraging self-reflection. This approach helps students recognize their worth, take ownership of their learning journey, and become their own idols.
RIPL fosters a dynamic teacher-student interaction, empowering students to take charge of their learning.
When it comes to language practice, IELTS Fighter adopts the S-K-S (Skills – Knowledge – Skills) approach. Students first encounter the language through listening and reading (Skills), then systematize their knowledge (Knowledge), and finally apply what they’ve learned by producing language through speaking and writing (Skills).
The final pillar of RIPL, “Logic,” is embodied in the PACES rule. This acronym stands for Proposal, Analysis, Conclusion, Enhancement, and Small Exercises. Students follow this cycle to acquire knowledge and hone their skills effectively.
Numerous students have achieved their target IELTS scores through the RIPL method, as recognized at the IELTS Fighter 7th Gathering event.
