The Woman Scammed Out of $240,000: A Tale of Greed and Online Gaming

"In a recent incident, a woman from Thanh Hoa fell prey to an online scam, as reported by the Department of Information Security (under the Ministry of Information and Communications). She was lured by scammers on social media into playing a game with promised rewards. Unbeknownst to her, as she kept playing and investing money, the scam escalated to a staggering sum of 5.6 billion VND."

A woman named Ms. M received a friend request on Facebook from an individual with the account name “Quoc Bao.” On June 1st, Bao sent her a link to the website https://www.aaf2.com/Public.lo… for the SANDS game and asked her to log in and play for fun. The online scammer introduced himself as an IT employee in Hanoi who knew the game’s system flaws. He told Ms. M that every day between 3:00 pm and 3:30 pm and 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm, if she deposited money and played, she would win big. Despite her suspicions, Ms. M was lured by greed and decided to give it a try. When she deposited 50 million VND into the account number 00007936097, belonging to CT TNHH CONG NGHE NANG HFM, she immediately received almost 53 million VND in winnings.

Ms. M, enticed by the easy money, continuously deposited money into the scammer’s account, unaware that she was falling into a trap. When the scammer realized that Ms. M trusted him completely, he informed her that her account had crashed and that she could no longer withdraw money. By then, Ms. M had already transferred a total of 5.6 billion VND into the scammer’s account.

The Authority of Information Security (under the Ministry of Information and Communications) advises people to be cautious and not trust individuals they have not met in person and only know through online interactions. Do not transfer money to others unless you clearly know the identity and location of the account holder. Regularly review and update security features and privacy settings on your online accounts and pages. Refrain from providing personal information or bank account details to strangers whose identities and backgrounds are unknown. Avoid accessing unfamiliar websites, links, or data files from unverified sources.

If you suspect or have been a victim of such scams, immediately report it to the authorities or the police for assistance and legal action.

The concept of an eco-industrial park is novel to Vietnam, with no certified eco-industrial parks in existence as of yet. While a select few industrial parks have begun to experiment with eco-friendly, circular, and waste-recycling models, their presence is minimal. Notably, there have been instances of "greenwashing" by businesses and industrial parks, where claims of environmental sustainability are exaggerated or misleading.
