The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province is conducting a surprise inspection of durian packaging and exporting facilities within the province.

The inspection team discovered several issues, including discrepancies in labeling and packaging codes. For instance, at the Krong Pac Agricultural Cooperative, 100 boxes of durians were found with a different packaging code than the one assigned to the cooperative.

The cooperative’s director admitted that they had not used their assigned packaging code for exporting durians. He attributed the mislabeling to the buyers, claiming that the cooperative only purchased fresh durians locally and resold them without any contracts.

Further investigation revealed that the packaging code on the boxes belonged to a company in Ho Chi Minh City, while the planting area code was assigned to a unit in Gia Lai province.

The inspection team also uncovered violations at the premises of Dung Thai Son Import-Export Trading Joint Stock Company. The company could only provide legal documents for one of its three facilities in Krong Pac district.

The company failed to produce essential documents such as business registration certificates, food safety certifications, ISO certificates, and records related to raw materials, product distribution, and employee food safety training.

The surprise inspection team from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province.

The director of the company acknowledged that only one of their facilities had a business registration certificate, and the inspected warehouse was not among them. He claimed that since the site was only for purchasing and packaging fresh durians, they had not obtained a food safety certificate from the authorities.

According to the director, the company purchases fresh durians from various locations, packages them, and then transports them to the main office, where they are labeled with planting area and packaging codes before being exported to China.

However, the company has not exported any durians to China this year and, therefore, does not have authorization from the planting areas. They also failed to provide the inspection team with records of employee food safety training.

The inspection team noted that the company did not meet food safety requirements, including a lack of one-way production processes, proper labeling, and inadequate storage facilities that failed to ensure product safety and quality.
