International Arrivals in Vietnam for the First Seven Months of 2024, by Region

According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, international arrivals in Vietnam reached 1.15 million in July 2024, marking a 10.9% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first seven months of 2024, Vietnam welcomed nearly 10 million international visitors, reflecting a significant 51.0% rise from the previous year and a 1.9% increase from 2019, pre-COVID-19.
Of the nearly 10 million international visitors to Vietnam during this period, 8.4 million arrived by air, accounting for 84.2% of total arrivals and representing a 45.1% year-on-year increase. Road arrivals accounted for 1.4 million or 14.1% of total arrivals, surging by 84.2%. Sea arrivals, though smaller in number, showed a remarkable threefold increase from the previous year, reaching 165.5 thousand.

The top source markets for international arrivals in July included Taiwan (China) with 101,465 arrivals, the United States with 62,900, Japan with 44,569, and Australia with 37,853 arrivals, among others.
Notably, arrivals from Europe displayed robust growth, with over 103,000 visitors in July, indicating a 9.4% increase from the previous month.
Among European countries, Russia led the growth with a 75.7% surge in arrivals, followed by Italy at 61%, France at 33.4%, the UK at 25.2%, Spain at 38.3%, and Germany at 27.4%.
Consequently, tourism revenue for the seven-month period is estimated at VND 35.2 trillion, reflecting a 31.8% increase year-on-year. Several localities witnessed significant growth, including Ho Chi Minh City (42.2%), Danang (38.6%), Can Tho (33.7%), Hanoi (29.7%), and Quang Ninh (21%).
Passenger transport in July 2024 is estimated at 447.7 million passengers, a 6.4% increase from the previous month, with 22.7 billion passenger-kilometers, a 2.9% rise. This growth can be attributed to the increased travel and tourism demand during the peak season. For the first seven months of 2024, passenger transport reached an estimated 2,805.7 million passengers, up 7.2% year-on-year, with 155.6 billion passenger-kilometers, a 10.5% increase. Domestic transport accounted for 2,795.4 million passengers, a 7.2% increase, and 123.1 billion passenger-kilometers, a 6.0% rise. International transport recorded 10.3 million passengers, a 21.6% increase, and 32.5 billion passenger-kilometers, a substantial 31.7% surge.
