On August 3, 2024, in Hanoi, the 13th Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam met to introduce and elect a new General Secretary. Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Politubro member and Prime Minister, presided over the meeting on behalf of the Politburo.
At the meeting, based on the Party’s regulations and the Politburo’s orientation for introducing personnel, the Central Executive Committee demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, collective intelligence, and democratic discussion. With an absolute majority of 100% of the votes, the Committee elected Comrade To Lam, Politubro member and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the 13th term.
In his speech, General Secretary To Lam affirmed his commitment to building upon the revolutionary achievements of his predecessor, late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and previous generations of leaders. He pledged to maintain unity and work collectively with the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat to lead the Party, the people, and the military towards the successful realization of the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress. He also vowed to ensure the successful organization of the 14th National Party Congress, guiding the country towards stable development in the new era.
