On August 3, 2024, in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, the 13th Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam met to introduce and elect a new General Secretary. Comrade Pham Minh Chinh, Politbüro member and Prime Minister, presided over the meeting on behalf of the Politbüro.
At the meeting, based on the Party’s regulations and the personnel introduction guidelines provided by the Politbüro, the Central Committee demonstrated a high sense of responsibility and unity. They engaged in democratic discussions and unanimously elected Comrade To Lam, Politbüro member and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam with an absolute majority of 100% of the votes.
In his speech, General Secretary To Lam affirmed his commitment to building upon the revolutionary achievements of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and previous generations of leaders. He vowed to maintain unity and work collectively with the Central Committee, the Politbüro, and the Secretariat to lead the entire Party, people, and army towards the successful realization of the goals and tasks set by the 13th National Party Congress. He also pledged to ensure the successful organization of the 14th National Party Congress, propelling the country’s steady development into a new phase.

Hanoi Names Road After Late General Secretary Do Muoi
The road named after former General Secretary Do Muoi in Tran Phu ward, Hoang Mai district, is 6,200m long and 68m wide. The road is equipped with synchronized infrastructure such as sidewalks, green trees, and street lights, as part of the investment project for building the Belt Road 3.
General Luong Cuong Appointed as Permanent Member of the Secretariat
The Politburo reported to the Party Central Committee that the Politburo had decided to assign Comrade General Luong Cuong, a member of the Politburo and former Chief of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, to the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee. He will take on the role of Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat.
