The Geely Geome Xingyuan electric car has been spotted undergoing testing in the hot weather of Xinjiang, China, ahead of its official launch later this year. The vehicle immediately drew attention after its registration with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July.
The car is being pitted against the BYD Dolphin and Seagull and is expected to compete with other electric vehicles in the same segment, such as the Wuling Bingo and JAC Yiwei 3.
According to reports, the Xingyuan will be built on a new platform and will feature an independent suspension system as standard. While some sources claim the battery will be supplied by CATL, others suggest it will be equipped with Geely’s new Aegis battery. The Aegis is a lithium iron phosphate battery, which makes more sense for a car priced around $10,000.
Based on its registration information with the MIIT, buyers will have a choice of two electric motor options with outputs of 58 kW and 85 kW. The top speed of the car equipped with the 58 kW motor is 125 km/h, while the larger motor can reach 135 km/h.
The expected range will be between 400 and 500 kilometers, depending on the motor output and battery size. The maximum weight for the lowest-spec version with the 58 kW motor is 1,215 kg, while the larger-motor version weighs in at 1,285 kg. Buyers of the lower-spec version can choose between 15-inch and 16-inch wheels, while the 85 kW version only comes with 16-inch wheels.
The only information currently known about the interior is that the Geely Geome Xingyuan will feature the Flyme Auto smart cockpit. The vehicle’s dimensions are 4,135 x 1,805 x 1,570 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
From the MIIT registration images, the Xingyuan showcases a new design language with a sleek exterior. Both the front and rear light clusters feature a teardrop shape, although they differ in appearance. One notable aspect of the car is the absence of a rear windshield wiper, likely omitted to reduce costs.
Now that MIIT has released information about this vehicle, consumers can expect sales to commence before the end of the year. Pricing is expected to start at around RMB 80,000 ($11,100), which is approximately VND 279 million.
Geely Holding Group sold 730,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024 and became the first Chinese automaker to enter the global top 10 in terms of car sales for the quarter. Geely surpassed both Mercedes-Benz and BMW, with a 27% increase in sales compared to the same period last year.
