The International University Township (Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 22 km from the city center) is a massive project with a total investment of VND 59,000 billion. It is located near National Highway 22 and Dang Cong Binh Street.

With a scale of 880 hectares, this project is even larger than District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. The project was approved in 2008, and the expected construction period is from the first quarter of 2024 to December 2027. However, as of August 2024, there are no signs of construction in the area.

Most of the planned land has been left abandoned, with only overgrown vegetation and a few dismantled houses. According to a local resident, these houses have been compensated, and the owners have relocated to make way for the project.

A few households, like Ms. Anh (36 years old), still remain within the planned area. She shares that her family has lived there for 18 years and is waiting for the rice harvest season to pass before relocating as requested by the local authorities.

The project site also includes some rice fields and temporary houses that can be dismantled at any time.

The surrounding dirt road shows signs of deterioration, and the electrical wires appear to be damaged, hanging low over the road.

In addition to the road, the project site is also surrounded by canals, including Xa Canal and An Ha Canal, as seen in the image.

According to the planning, the International University Township is expected to accommodate a population of over 64,000 people. It will include various types of housing, such as apartments, social housing, and villas. Additionally, more than 298 hectares of land are allocated for the construction of a university village and dormitories.

Once completed, the project is envisioned to create a modern township with an international-standard living and working environment. It is also expected to contribute to the development of the 6,000-hectare Tay Bac Urban Area.

However, more than 15 years after its approval, the project remains stagnant, with no signs of construction in the area.
