Hyundai has unveiled the CNG variant of its popular Grand i10 Nios hatchback in India, with a starting price of 7.75 lakh Rs (approximately 220 million VND) for the Magna version and 8.30 lakh Rs (around 235 million VND) for the Sportz trim. In the Indian market, the Hyundai model will compete against the likes of the Tiago CNG MT/AMT, Tigor CNG, and upcoming CNG variants of the Swift and Dzire.

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG is powered by a 1.2-liter petrol engine, capable of running on both petrol and CNG. This engine is paired with a 5-speed automated manual transmission. Hyundai Motor India claims that the Grand i10 Nios CNG delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg of CNG.

In terms of dimensions, the car measures 3,815 mm in length, 1,680 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. Notable exterior features include LED daytime running lights, roof rails, a shark fin antenna, and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, voice recognition, and a 3.5-inch MID display.

Safety is well catered for, with six airbags fitted as standard, alongside features such as a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Day/Night Inside Rearview Mirror (IRVM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Hill Assist Control (HAC) for added peace of mind.

In recent years, CNG-powered vehicles have gained popularity in India, with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Maruti Suzuki S-Presso offering affordable and efficient transportation. CNG, or Compressed Natural Gas, is favored for its energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions, making it a cleaner fuel choice.

Hyundai first entered the CNG vehicle segment with the Xcent in October 2017. The Korean automaker has since expanded its CNG offerings in the Indian market, introducing models such as the Grand i10 Magna CNG in May 2019 and the recently launched Exter, which features a dual-cylinder CNG technology dubbed Hy-CNG Duo.

The Hyundai Exter, much like the Grand i10 Nios, is competitively priced in India, with the S trim starting at 8.50 lakh Rs (approximately 241 million VND), the SX version at 9.23 lakh Rs (around 261 million VND), and the Knight SX trim at 9.38 lakh Rs (roughly 266 million VND).

The Hyundai Exter is designed specifically for the Indian market.

The Hy-CNG Duo system sets itself apart from traditional single-cylinder CNG setups by employing two CNG cylinders and an integrated Engine Control Unit (ECU). This innovative design enables seamless switching between petrol and CNG fuel sources. Additionally, the two cylinders are strategically placed under the boot floor, maximizing boot space compared to conventional single-cylinder CNG configurations.
