The Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Tran Sy Thanh, inspected the progress of the Nhon – Hanoi Station metro project, specifically the elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay. He was briefed by the Management Board of Hanoi Metropolitan Railway (MRB), the project investor, on the construction progress. According to MRB leaders, the elevated section is now 100% complete.
On the preparations for the commercial operation of the elevated section, MRB leaders informed that the project has completed important legal procedures, including the system safety certification issued by international consultants, safety inspection and certification for the 10 train sets by the Registry Agency, safety certifications approved by the Railway Authority, and the acceptance of the State Inspection Council.
Based on these achievements, the investor proposed to the Hanoi People’s Committee to allow the operation of the elevated section from August 9, 2024.
Chairman Thanh directed that as the construction and preparation works for the project operation are completed, the train sets should be put into commercial operation as soon as possible. He requested the investor to advance the operation date to August 8 instead of the previously proposed date of August 9.
Regarding the Hanoi Department of Transport, the city leader requested to promptly submit to the city the drafts on the project completion for the city leaders’ signature, which will serve as a basis for the handover and acceptance between the investor and the operation unit.
On August 6, when interviewed by Tien Phong Newspaper about the progress and the city leader’s direction, the MRB leader affirmed that the investor can meet the requirements. In fact, the trains have been technically operating on the route with a sufficient number of employees and engineers prepared by both the investor and the operation unit, Hanoi Metro Company.
The inspection, acceptance, and handover between the investor and the operation unit, Hanoi Metro Company, have been carried out step by step. The current handover process only involves the signing and confirmation of documents.
The Nhon – Hanoi Station urban railway project is 12.5km long, including an 8.5km elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay and a 4km underground section from Cau Giay to Hanoi Station. Once operational, each train on the elevated section will be able to carry about 1,000 passengers, and the train frequency will be able to serve more than 8,000 passengers per hour per direction.
