On August 6, at the Party Central Committee’s headquarters, key leaders met to evaluate the results of July and set the focus for August 2024. The meeting was chaired by General Secretary and President To Lam.

This was the first key leaders’ meeting after President To Lam was elected as the General Secretary, aiming to maintain the working discipline of the key leaders.

Attending the meeting were Politburo members: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairwoman Tran Thanh Man, and Permanent Member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong.

On behalf of the assistants to the key leaders, Central Committee member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc reported a summary of the completed tasks in July and the key tasks for August 2024 and the coming months.

The conference agreed that in July, the Central Committee focused on resolving many important issues regarding Party building and organization; socio-economic development; national defense, security, and foreign affairs; and social policies, especially measures to assist people in areas affected by natural disasters and earthquakes.

Basically, all targets and tasks set by the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Government, and the National Assembly for July were completed.

Particularly, after the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Committee, the Politburo, and the Secretariat organized a solemn and thoughtful state funeral, allowing the people and international friends to express their respect and infinite grief for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Immediately after, the Central Committee held a conference to elect the General Secretary of the 13th-tenure Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam to ensure continuity in the leadership, direction, and administration of the country and uphold the principle of the Party’s comprehensive, effective, and efficient leadership.

After discussions among the key leaders and the Permanent Member of the Secretariat, General Secretary and President To Lam concluded some key tasks that the entire Party and political system need to focus on and resolve in the coming months. These include: reviewing the remaining tasks for the rest of 2024 and proposing solutions for quick and effective completion; continuing preparations for the 10th session of the 13th-tenure Central Committee; ensuring that the sub-committees for the 14th Party Congress proceed with their assigned tasks according to the set roadmap.

Additionally, there should be an early deployment of the contents of the summary of 40 years of renewal in theory and practice in Vietnam to serve as a basis for proposing the construction of reports to be submitted to the 14th Party Congress; the central and local agencies should soon complete the leadership positions to best prepare for the congresses at all levels towards the 14th Party Congress; and there should be enhanced attention to the activities of the political system at the grassroots level to ensure its effectiveness and efficiency, avoiding causing inconvenience and difficulties for the people.

Regarding socio-economic development, it is necessary to focus on removing difficulties, obstacles, and bottlenecks to create a favorable mechanism for businesses and entrepreneurs to have conditions for development, investment, and business activities, promoting effective production, and creating a positive atmosphere for the people in production, business, and daily life.

The conference also discussed and provided orientations for resolving many other important issues of the country in the coming time.
