MG HS Discounted to Match Entry-Level Car Prices

A MG dealer in Ha Long is offering significant discounts on the MG HS model. According to a sales consultant, the MG HS Deluxe version has been reduced by VND 117 million to VND 582 million, while the HS Luxury version has been discounted by VND 120 million, bringing the price down from VND 749 million to VND 629 million.

On top of these discounts, customers who purchase the MG HS will receive a complimentary accessory package. It’s important to note that this is a dealer-specific promotion, and the level of discount may vary between locations.

This is the first time the MG HS has been offered with a discount of over VND 100 million at a dealership.

The discounted price of the MG HS not only competes with rivals such as the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage, but it is also lower than many entry-level and subcompact cars. For example, the Mitsubishi Xforce Exceed is priced at VND 640 million, and the Hyundai Creta Special edition costs VND 650 million, while the base model starts at VND 599 million. In the entry-level segment, the Kia Sonet has a maximum price of VND 624 million.

The MG HS’s discounted price matches or undercuts many entry-level and subcompact cars.

Some argue that the discounted price of the HS might overlap with its smaller sibling, the MG RX-5 (priced between VND 739-829 million). However, the RX-5 is also being offered with substantial discounts of up to VND 180 million, making it even more affordable than the HS.

Currently, the MG HS’s biggest competitor in the Vietnamese market is the Mazda CX-5. In the first half of 2024, this compact SUV from Mazda sold 5,270 units, capturing over 37.2% of the market share in its segment. Following closely are the Ford Territory (2,949 units sold) and the Honda CR-V (2,338 units sold).

What Does the MG HS Offer in Vietnam?

The 2024 MG HS was introduced in Vietnam in late January 2024. This is the second major discount offered by dealers since the car’s launch three months ago.

The new HS is a facelifted version, featuring some exterior changes such as new LED headlights, a larger grille similar to the MG5, and new 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. The overall dimensions and design of the car remain unchanged from the previous version sold by the old distributor.

The front end of the HS has been redesigned with similarities to the MG5.

The interior of the new HS remains largely unchanged from its predecessor. Some notable convenience features include a fully digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel, a 10-inch central touchscreen, Bose sound system, sports-style seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof.

The interior remains unchanged from the previous version.

The engine remains the same 1.5L turbocharged unit, producing 168 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The facelifted model drops the option of a 2.0L turbocharged engine.

The 2024 HS comes equipped with a range of safety features, including a 360-degree camera, rear sensors, automatic headlights, ABS, EBD, and six airbags. The Luxury version adds advanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision warning, emergency brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, and safe exit warning.
