According to statistics from Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), the city’s power consumption on August 4th was only 78.7 million kWh, but it surged to 98.7 million kWh (a 25.4% increase) by August 7th.
Power consumption continued to rise on August 8th, reaching 101.3 million kWh, almost hitting the highest level recorded on June 19th, 2024. The monthly peak load was also set at 13:30 on the same day, reaching 5,005 MW.
Hanoi’s unique characteristic is that over 55% of its electricity load is for residential use, so the sudden increase in demand during hot weather can put significant strain on the power distribution system.
Following the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 20/CT-TTg dated June 8th, 2023, EVNHANOI encourages customers to use electricity efficiently, turn off unnecessary electrical appliances, and avoid using high-energy-consuming devices during peak hours (including 12:00 to 15:00 and 22:00 to 24:00 daily).
Particularly, it is important to use air conditioners reasonably, turning them on only when necessary and setting the temperature at 26 °C or higher.
EVNHANOI states that customers who want to learn more about efficient electricity usage or seek advice can visit their website, evnhanoi.vn, and select the “Sá» dụng Ä‘iện an toà n, hiệu quả” section, or contact their customer care center at 19001288, which is available 24/7.
