At a press conference providing information on socio-economic issues in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8, Ms. Pham Dac My Tran, Head of the Press Department – Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, clarified the issues related to the media meeting of actress Nam Thu held recently.
According to Ms. Tran, under Clause 1 and Clause 3, Article 41 of the 2016 Press Law, agencies, organizations, and individuals have the right to organize press conferences to announce, explain, and answer questions related to them.
However, press conferences must be announced to the competent authorities and state management agencies at least 24 hours before they take place.
Ms. Tran affirmed that in case an agency, organization, or individual organizes a press conference without permission, it is a violation of regulations. When a violation is detected during an event, the authorities have the right to stop it according to the Press Law and are authorized to impose administrative sanctions.
“All cases of organizing international conferences, seminars, or press conferences require permission from competent authorities before taking place. Business units and event venue leasing units also need to be aware of the regulations and ask the organizing unit if they have a permit,” she emphasized.
Previously, in the afternoon of August 5, Nam Thu, along with representatives of her management company and legal representative, held a media meeting to address the recent private life rumors spreading on social media.
Nam Thu affirmed that the rumors suggesting she had an affair with a married man who owned a homestay in Da Lat, threatened others, and failed to pay rent, among others, were false.
