The stocks in the VN30 basket saw a fairly balanced mix of green and red. Specifically, VHM, ACB, VIC, and VJC respectively took away 0.89 points, 0.8 points, 0.56 points, and 0.55 points from the overall index. In contrast, FPT, MWG, VNM, and PLX received strong buying interest and contributed more than 2.5 points to the VN30-Index.

The real estate group is putting pressure on the overall market. Within this sector, the residential real estate stocks faced the most selling pressure, declining by 1.03%. Major players like VHM dropped by 2.02%, VIC fell by 1.09%, KDH decreased by 0.7%, and NVL slipped by 0.88%. Notably, DIG witnessed a sharp decline of over 4% following the news of the passing of DIC Corp’s Chairman, Nguyen Thien Tuan, which was announced over the weekend.

Additionally, the financial sector also contributed to the market pressure, although the decline was not significant due to mixed performances within the group. The main selling pressure came from bank stocks such as VPB, which fell by 0.28%, ACB declining by 0.64%, VCB dropping by 0.11%, and HDB slipping by 0.78%…

On the flip side, the energy sector displayed robust growth and provided support to the overall market, led by oil and gas heavyweights BSR, which rose by 1.75%, PVS increasing by 1.04%, PVD climbing by 0.56%, and PVB up by 2.19%…

Following closely, the telecommunications services sector also witnessed a decent uptick, with VGI surging by 1.76%, FOX rising by 1.92%, CTR ticking up by 0.08%, ELC climbing by 2.14%, and FOC advancing by 0.71%.

Compared to the opening, buyers and sellers were engaged in a tight tug-of-war, with over 1,000 stocks unchanged and a slight edge for the buyers. There were 292 stocks that advanced (including 17 at the upper limit) versus 241 declining stocks (with 11 at the lower limit).

Opening: Cautious Start

On August 12, as of 9:30 a.m., the VN-Index hovered around the reference level, reaching 1,225.19 points. The HNX-Index also witnessed a slight increase, hovering around the 230-point mark.

The VN30 basket witnessed a slight edge for the green side, with 10 decliners, 12 advancers, and 8 stocks remaining unchanged. VJC, VIC, and VIB were the top losers, while PLX, MWG, and GAS led the gains.

The telecommunications services sector stood out as one of the most vibrant industries in the market. Notable performers included VGI, TTN, MFS, TPH, SGT, and SBD, all trading in positive territory.
