According to reports, Samsung Vietnam currently operates six manufacturing facilities and one research and development center, with a total investment capital of 22.8 billion USD. From January to July 2024, Samsung Vietnam’s export turnover reached 33.5 billion USD, a 5% increase compared to the same period last year.

Mr. Choi Joo Ho appreciated the Vietnamese government’s issuance of Decree No. 80/2024/ND-CP dated July 3, 2024, on the mechanism for direct power purchase agreements (DPPA) between renewable energy generators and large power users. He expressed Samsung Vietnam’s desire to be facilitated in increasing the proportion of renewable energy in their production, with reasonable costs, to contribute to Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that immediately after the issuance of the DPPA mechanism, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to urgently review and issue criteria for selecting renewable energy projects connected to the national grid for inclusion in the Power Planning 8, ensuring system safety, transmission capacity, and economic efficiency. There will be no limit to the capacity of renewable energy projects that are not connected to the national grid.

Additionally, Vietnam will accompany and encourage enterprises to promote green transformation and reduce carbon emissions by developing regulations on emission limits, carbon credit markets, carbon tax policies, green finance, and land incentives.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that foreign enterprises, including Samsung Vietnam, continue to provide practical recommendations to immediately address difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process of the DPPA mechanism, aiming towards operating Vietnam’s electricity market according to a full-fledged market mechanism.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and relevant ministries and sectors to continue working with Samsung Vietnam regarding the proposals made during the meeting. He also suggested that Samsung pay attention to investing in research and development centers and technology transfer for new industries such as semiconductor chips.
