Telecom services led the current upturn, with notable tickers such as VGI, up 1.8%; CTR, up 0.66%; FOX, up 1.09%; and MFS, gaining 3.53%… The remaining stocks were either flat or marginally higher.
Additionally, the materials sector witnessed a decent advance, with the breadth tilting toward buying pressure. Standouts included DCM, up 1.65%; DPM, up 1.12%; NTP, advancing 5.55%; GVR, up 1.21%; HPG, rising 0.79%; and CSV, climbing 3.06%…
In contrast, the energy sector painted a negative picture, with a predominantly red hue. This group faced considerable selling pressure as investors focused their trades on three tickers: BSR, down 0.85%; PVD, falling 0.56%; and PVS, declining 0.51%.
Compared to the opening bell, buyers and sellers were engaged in a tight tug-of-war, with over 1,027 stocks flat. The buying side slightly edged out the sellers, as 282 stocks advanced (14 hitting the daily limit up) against 274 decliners (10 hitting the daily limit down).

Open: Positive Sentiment Spreads
As of August 14th, 9:30 am, the VN-Index had climbed over 3 points to reach 1,234.24. The HNX-Index also edged higher to 231.22.
On August 13th, the Dow Jones index rose 408 points (approx. 1.04%) to 39,765.64. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 indices also posted gains, rising 2.43% and 1.68% to close at 17,187.61 and 5,434.43, respectively. The latter is approximately 5% shy of its all-time high recorded in July 2024.
The Producer Price Index (PPI) for July—a measure of wholesale prices—inched up by 0.1% from the previous month. This figure fell short of economists’ predictions of a 0.2% increase but matched June’s reading.
As of 9:30 am, large-cap stocks like BID, FPT, and MSN spearheaded the index’s advance, contributing nearly 1.5 points. On the flip side, VCB, VHM, and VJC dragged the market lower, deducting over 1.5 points combined.
