Mitsubishi Surges to 3rd in Monthly Sales for the First Time
The top 3 best-selling car brands in Vietnam for July saw a shake-up as Mitsubishi overtook Ford. According to data from VAMA, Mitsubishi sold 3,835 vehicles in July, a significant increase of nearly 700 units compared to Ford’s 3,150. This represents a 32% growth for Mitsubishi from the previous month, while Ford experienced a 5% decline.

With this impressive performance, Mitsubishi ranked just behind Hyundai (4,450 units, excluding commercial vehicles) and Toyota (6,479 units). Toyota and Hyundai have consistently maintained their positions as the top-selling car brands in Vietnam so far this year.
Despite Mitsubishi’s substantial lead over Ford in July, Ford still holds a slight edge in cumulative sales for the first seven months of the year, with 18,457 units sold compared to Mitsubishi’s 20,801.

Xforce and Xpander Account for Nearly 85% of Mitsubishi’s Sales
The primary driver of Mitsubishi’s sales growth is the Xforce. This model set a monthly sales record with 1,748 units sold, an increase of more than 80% compared to the previous month. This achievement also propelled the Xforce to the top-selling vehicle in Vietnam for July, excluding VinFast as they have not disclosed their sales figures.
Xforce and Xpander are the two main contributors to Mitsubishi’s overall sales. Combined, these two models accounted for 3,240 units sold in July, while Ford’s top models, the Ranger and Everest, sold a total of 2,227 units. Mitsubishi’s dynamic duo outsold Ford’s by nearly 50%, showcasing their dominance in the market.

Since its launch, the Xforce has been performing exceptionally well, meeting the expectations set by the brand when it was first introduced in Indonesia. The Japanese automaker anticipated that the Xforce would be as popular as the Xpander, and the sales figures seem to support this prediction.
The impressive sales performance of the Xforce in July can be partly attributed to significant incentives and promotions offered by dealerships. Some versions were offered with a 100% discount on registration fees, equivalent to over 70 million VND. The lowest-priced trim shocked the market at 599 million VND and continued to benefit from a 50% reduction in registration fees for July. As a result, the Xforce became competitively priced, even against smaller cars like the Sonet.
Ford’s mainstay, the Ranger, experienced a decline in sales for the month, slipping from its top position to 5th place. Meanwhile, the Xforce climbed from 4th to 1st place, showcasing its strong market appeal.

With the upcoming launch of the new-generation Triton in September, Mitsubishi is poised to further boost its sales performance in the final quarter of the year.
