The residents of a high-risk landslide area in Huong Lap, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, were thrilled to recently move into a new village, comprising 56 houses built midway up a hill, with a total investment of over VND 33 billion. This was a gift from the Son Hai Group to the local people.
“My family lived under the mountain for many years, and we were always worried about landslides during the rainy season,” shared Ho Van Trung, a resident of Tri village who received a new house, in an interview with Dan Tri newspaper. “Now that we have a new house, we no longer have to worry. The new village is spacious and fully equipped; everyone is happy.”

The new village, which was started in 2022 and is now complete, provides a new home for a total of 271 people from the villages of Cuoi, Tri, and Cha Ly in Huong Lap commune. The houses are built with reinforced concrete while retaining the traditional style of local stilt houses.
In addition to providing housing, the sponsor also established a system of wells, roads, power lines, a primary school, a kindergarten, and a community cultural house. They also constructed accommodation for teachers and installed closed-loop toilets.
Moreover, to support the livelihoods of the households moving to the new village, the sponsor completed two terraced rice fields covering a total area of 7.59 hectares. They also spread humus soil to create arable land, making it easier for locals to cultivate rice, according to Nhip Song Thi Truong newspaper.

Each family also received a cow, a television set, and a WiFi connection. The group further committed to providing rice to the villagers for the first three years. The total cost of building the schools and providing cows and rice amounted to VND 7 billion.
“It is not easy to build a solid new village with essential infrastructure, complete with schools and community halls, and even provide livelihoods,” said Ha Si Dong, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, in an article published by Tuoi Tre Online. “The people of the commune can now rest easier during the rainy season.”
