A number of international airlines have announced temporary suspensions of flights to the Middle East or adjustments to their routes to avoid affected airspaces amidst escalating tensions in the region.
On August 14, Vietnamese airlines assured reporters from NLD that their operations remain unaffected by the political tensions in the Middle East.
According to Vietnam Airlines, while some of their routes that usually pass through the Middle East will now be shorter and more fuel-efficient, they have opted to reroute and detour around potentially affected airspaces. Consequently, flight durations are longer, resulting in extended travel times for passengers and increased fuel costs for the airline, but with no impact on their flight schedules.
Vietjet also shared that they currently do not operate any routes to the Middle East or through its airspace, thus remaining unaffected by the geopolitical situation in the region.
Per Reuters, major airlines such as Germany’s Lufthansa, Switzerland’s Swiss Air, and France’s Air France have extended their suspensions of flights to the Middle East.
Airlines from Greece, Algeria, and Latvia have also canceled or refrained from scheduling new flights to the region in the coming days.
India’s national carrier has temporarily halted and refrained from scheduling new flights to and from the area until further notice.
