As of July 16, 2024, MBB announced a list of shareholders owning over 1% of the bank’s charter capital, according to information provided by the shareholders. Prudential Vietnam Life Insurance Limited Company held 1.24%, equivalent to nearly 66 million shares, and PYN Elite Fund (Non-UCITS) owned 1.63%, equivalent to over 86 million shares.

On August 13, two additional foreign institutional investors were included in the list: J.P.Morgan Securities PLC, holding 1.5% (over 79 million shares), and Nordea 1, SICAV, with a stake of 1.03% (over 54 million shares).

J.P.Morgan Securities is a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), one of the oldest financial services firms in the world. Headquartered in New York City, JPMorgan Chase & Co. is a leader in financial services, investment banking, and asset management. The company’s assets currently total $2.6 trillion, and it is also the largest bank in the United States.

J.P. Morgan Securities LLC acts as an investment manager for the parent company and provides asset planning, research, securities, brokerage solutions, advisory programs, and portfolio management services.

Nordea 1, SICAV, on the other hand, is an open-ended investment fund established in Luxembourg. The fund invests in global securities, aiming to provide appropriate returns for investors.

The updated list as of August 13, 2024, reveals that the three foreign funds, PYN Elite, JP. Morgan Securities, and Nordea 1, SICAV, collectively hold 4.16% of MBB‘s capital, equivalent to nearly 220 million shares.

In addition to the four shareholders named in the list of shareholders owning over 1% of the capital, MBB also announced four major domestic shareholders owning a total of 44% of the bank’s charter capital (after ESOP issuance).

Specifically, as of March 29, 2024, Viettel was the largest shareholder of MBB, with a 19% stake, equivalent to 1 billion shares. SCIC followed with a 9.8% stake, or over 521 million shares. These two major shareholders increased their ownership in the bank after purchasing 73 million shares from MBB‘s private placement.

The other two large shareholders are the Vietnam Helicopter Corporation, holding 8.4% (over 447 million shares), and Saigon New Port Corporation, with a stake of nearly 7.1% (nearly 376 million shares).
