On August 15th, the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the Military-Telecommunications Industry Group held a conference to transfer the duties of the Party Secretary and Vice President of the Military-Telecommunications Industry Group (Viettel). Based on the decisions of the Central Military Commission and the Minister of Defense, Major General Nguyen Thanh Nam, Party Secretary and Vice President of the Group, retired as of August 1st, 2024. At the conference, Major General Nguyen Thanh Nam handed over his duties to Major General Tao Duc Thang, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman/President of the Military-Telecommunications Industry Group.

On the same day, the Tax Department of Vinh Phuc province held a conference to announce the decision to appoint a new deputy director. Mr. Vu Chi Hung, Deputy Director of the General Department of Taxation, handed over the decision to appoint Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, former deputy director of the Tax Department of Lao Cai province, as the new deputy director of the Tax Department of Vinh Phuc province. The decision came into effect on August 2nd, 2024.


On the evening of August 15th, Vietlott announced that two Power 6/55 tickets won the Jackpot 1 prize, with each ticket winning VND 19.6 billion. The drawing board also determined that there was an additional Power 6/55 ticket that won the Jackpot 2 prize worth VND 3.5 billion. On August 15th, a video circulated on social media depicting a young woman lying on the hood of a moving car. The incident took place on the evening of August 14th on Dong Ho Street, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City. The woman blocked the car and demanded that the male driver not leave. However, the driver continued to move the vehicle, prompting the woman to lie on the hood and cry for help. Representatives from the People’s Committee of Ward 8, Tan Binh District, confirmed that the woman had parked her car in the middle of the road to buy bread, blocking the driver’s path, which led to an argument and the subsequent incident. The authorities have asked the driver to come to the ward police station, but he has postponed the meeting due to other commitments.


In the afternoon of August 15th, Mr. Dang Hoang Tuan, Director of the Long An Provincial Department of Transportation, revealed that over 10,000 driver’s licenses remain unprinted since May 5th, 2024. The department has requested the People’s Committee of Long An province to purchase additional printing accessories for 2024 to address the backlog of licenses awaiting issuance. The proposed purchase is estimated to cost VND 556 million and will be used to print 28,500 driver’s licenses by the end of 2024, including 12,000 backlogged licenses and 16,500 new licenses. The director attributed the large backlog to the exhaustion of pre-arranged printing accessories and the need to borrow supplies from other provinces.


The Food Safety Authority of the Ministry of Health has recently issued a document to the Health Department of Vinh Long province regarding the investigation and handling of a suspected food poisoning case. Specifically, over 215 employees of Bo Hsing Company, located in Hoa Phu Industrial Park, Long Ho district, Vinh Long province, were hospitalized with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea after having lunch at the company canteen. The Health Department of Vinh Long province has directed the Food Hygiene and Safety Division to coordinate with the Long Ho District Medical Center to investigate the epidemiology and collect food samples to determine the cause.


According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on August 16th and 17th, the Northern and North-Central regions will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms. The mountainous regions of the North will have occasional showers and thunderstorms on August 16th. During this period, the Central Highlands and Southern regions can expect localized thunderstorms in the late afternoons and evenings, with daytime sunshine. Additionally, from August 16th to 17th, the provinces from Quang Binh to Ninh Thuan will experience hot weather, with temperatures reaching 35-37 degrees Celsius in some places. The hot weather in the Central region is expected to persist in the coming days.
