The highly anticipated Pebble Beach event in the US will witness the unveiling of a mysterious Mercedes-Benz model on August 18. However, the cat is out of the bag, as it has been revealed to be the fourth addition to the Maybach family: the Mercedes-Maybach SL. The super-luxury brand of Mercedes-Benz already boasts an impressive lineup with the Maybach S-Class, Maybach GLS, and Maybach EQS SUV.
In terms of design, the super-luxury version of the SL stands out from the AMG variant, which was revived at the beginning of this decade. The front end features a new bumper and a hood with the Maybach logo, accented by a metallic line that stretches from the three-pointed star emblem to the base of the windshield.
Moving towards the rear, the center-lock wheels, sills, exhaust tips, and rear bumper showcase a chrome or polished steel finish.
The interior of the Mercedes-Maybach SL borrows from its lower-spec sibling, but Maybach has made significant upgrades. The front seats are luxurious and supportive, with integrated headrests that feature dedicated vents for neck warming, catering to both the driver and front passenger.
Polished metal accents grace the dashboard, complementing the large vertical touchscreen display. The steering wheel is trimmed with either black or dark wood accents, depending on the trim level, as suggested by the low-resolution leaked images. The instrument cluster displays a top speed of 280 km/h, a figure not commonly seen in super-luxury vehicles. Interestingly, the cluster uses km/h units, which is unusual for a car intended for the international market.
The Mercedes-Maybach SL shares the same MSA platform as the standard SL, which is capable of accommodating V8 and I-4 engines. It is unlikely to feature a V12 like the current Maybach S 680 (603 hp, 900 Nm) as this platform has not been paired with a V12 powertrain before.
However, by adopting the most potent configuration from the AMG SL, the Maybach SL could potentially reach a staggering 805 hp and 1,420 Nm.
