In terms of impact, GAS, VCB, and VNM are the main contributors to the VN-Index, helping the index increase by about 3 points. On the other hand, FPT, SSB, and KDC did not perform well in the morning session, negatively affecting the index, but the impact was not significant.
The green color still dominates most industry groups. The telecommunications services group temporarily leads with a 2.28% increase, mainly contributed by VGI (+2.7%), FOX (+2.15%), and CTR (+0.63%). The energy group also traded quite actively in the morning session, rising nearly 2%. Most stocks are in a positive uptrend, typically BSR (+2.1%), PVS (+1.77%), PVD (+1.1%), and PVC (+1.5%).
On the contrary, information technology is the only industry that declined in the morning session, but the decline was not significant, mainly affected by the “big brother” FPT, which fell slightly by 0.23%.
Foreign investors were a negative factor, with net selling of more than 202 billion VND on the three exchanges. The largest net selling volume was spread out quite evenly among TCB, VHM, HSG, CSV, and FPT (from about 20 to over 30 billion VND). On the other hand, VNM is still favored by foreign investors, with net buying of more than 60 billion VND.
10:45 am: Buyers continue to dominate
The main indices maintained a positive green color as market liquidity continued to recover in the morning session. As of 10:40 am, the VN-Index increased by more than 7 points, trading around 1,260 points. The HNX-Index increased by more than 1 point, trading around 236 points.
Stocks in the VN30 group had a relatively balanced breadth, but the green color had a more positive impact. Specifically, BID, VCB, HPG, and VNM contributed 0.97 points, 0.81 points, 0.71 points, and 0.62 points to the VN30-Index, respectively. Meanwhile, VCF, CTG, VRE, and KDC are still under selling pressure, but the decline was not significant.

Financial and real estate stocks remained the two main groups supporting the recovery of the overall index. However, the breadth of the financial group is currently quite strong, and the increase is quite modest, such as VIX up 0.42%, VPB up 0.27%, EIB up 0.27%, STB up 0.51%… On the other hand, SSI fell 0.31%, TPB fell 0.29%, MBB fell 0.42%, SSB fell 0.23%… covered in red, but the decline was not significant.
In addition, the real estate group also had a similar performance, with a slight breadth divergence. Among them, the green color is present in some codes such as PDR up 2.93%, DIG up 1.05%, DXG up 4.26%, NVL up 1.26%… On the contrary, VRE fell 0.27%, HDG fell 0.18%, KDH fell 0.4%, SIP fell 0.14%… and it can be seen that the buying side still has the upper hand compared to the selling side in this industry.
Moreover, the non-essential consumer group also recorded a decent increase of 0.82%. The focus of this group revolves around two stocks, PNJ and HAX, which turned purple right from the start of the session. From a technical perspective, during the morning session of August 19, 2024, PNJ stock witnessed a strong upward momentum, forming a Rising Window candlestick pattern accompanied by a breakthrough trading volume that surpassed the 20-session average, indicating that large capital has returned to this stock. Additionally, PNJ‘s price reached a new 52-week high as the MACD continued its upward trajectory and stayed above the zero line after generating a buy signal, suggesting a positive mid-term outlook.
