Airfare for multiple destinations nearly doubles
A survey conducted by VTC News journalists on online ticket booking platforms and travel agencies on the morning of August 18 revealed that airfares from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to popular tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Con Dao, and Phu Quoc during the upcoming 2/9 holiday have surged significantly.
For travelers departing on August 31 (the beginning of the holiday) and returning on September 3 (the end of the holiday), round-trip airfares between Hanoi and Phu Quoc, including taxes and fees, ranged from VND 7.4 to 7.9 million on Vietjet Air, and VND 6.4 to 7.5 million on Vietravel Airlines. These prices reflect a near doubling compared to mid-August and early July rates.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Airlines has not released any information about tickets for this route, indicating that tickets for this particular route may have already sold out.
For the Hanoi-Con Dao route, round-trip fares on Vietravel Airlines and Vietnam Airlines ranged from VND 7.4 to 7.7 million (including taxes and fees), an increase of approximately VND 2 million per round-trip ticket compared to prices in July and mid-August.
On the other hand, round-trip tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc on Vietravel Airlines and Vietnam Airlines ranged from VND 3.2 to 3.6 million, while Vietjet Air offered tickets from VND 3.1 to 3.4 million (including taxes and fees). These prices are VND 400,000 to VND 700,000 higher than mid-August prices and prices from mid-August to late June.
A survey of the Hanoi-Nha Trang route showed a similar price hike. Specifically, round-trip fares, including taxes and fees, on Vietnam Airlines ranged from VND 4.5 to 4.8 million, while Vietjet Air offered tickets for over VND 5.4 million. These prices reflect an increase of VND 500,000 to VND 1 million compared to mid-August and early July rates.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways’ fares for the same route skyrocketed to nearly VND 7.5 million per round-trip ticket, an increase of VND 2 to 3 million compared to other domestic airlines during the same period and more than double Bamboo Airways’ mid-August prices.
Explaining the reason for the surge in airfares during the holiday period, a representative of an airline stated that prices only increased compared to the low season of summer operation and did not exceed the ceiling price set by the Ministry of Transport.
A survey of another popular route, Hanoi-Danang, during the 2/9 holiday showed a less significant price increase. Specifically, round-trip fares, including taxes and fees, on Vietnam Airlines ranged from VND 3.6 to 3.9 million, VND 3.7 to 4.1 million on Vietjet Air, and VND 3.6 to 3.9 million on Bamboo Airway.
Thus, airfares for the Hanoi-Danang route during the 2/9 holiday are slightly higher than pre-holiday prices, with an increase of VND 300,000 to VND 700,000 per ticket, and the prices among the airlines are relatively similar.
No shortage of airline tickets
Regarding concerns about a possible shortage of aircraft or flights leading to price increases, the airlines assured that there is no shortage of aircraft or tickets.
“To ensure the travel needs of the people and in response to the recent directive from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on implementing plans and tasks to serve passengers during the National Day holiday on September 2, we have proactively coordinated with travel companies in developing programs and plans for operation, increasing flights to key tourist destinations, thereby supporting, promoting, and enhancing domestic and international tourism,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.
Vietnam Airlines has added nearly half a million seats, equivalent to nearly 2,500 flights, during the peak holiday season of the National Day holiday on September 2. The total number of domestic seats reached 330,000, an increase of more than 19% compared to the same period in 2023.
“At this point, on popular tourist routes, the load factor of the airline has reached nearly 60%,” the Vietnam Airlines representative added.
Meanwhile, Vietjet Air also informed that they have added 25,000 seats, equivalent to 120 flights, to meet the travel demand of passengers and tourists.
Similarly, from August 30 to September 4, Vietravel Airlines will provide nearly 28,000 seats to accommodate travelers.
What does Vietnam Airlines spokesperson say about increasing the ceiling fare for domestic flights from 1/3?
According to Mr. Le Hong Ha, CEO of Vietnam Airlines, the upcoming increase in domestic airfare from March 1st will mark the first adjustment since 2015.
Car rental for self-driving during holidays
Amidst the much-anticipated 5-day break for the 30th April and 1st May holidays, ride-hailing services were poised to rake in substantial profits. However, as the holiday period approaches, bookings have only reached approximately 20%, a significant decline from the 50% occupancy rate witnessed during the same period last year.
