Car rental for self-driving during holidays

Amidst the much-anticipated 5-day break for the 30th April and 1st May holidays, ride-hailing services were poised to rake in substantial profits. However, as the holiday period approaches, bookings have only reached approximately 20%, a significant decline from the 50% occupancy rate witnessed during the same period last year.

Due to a significant decrease in car rental bookings, rental prices for the upcoming May Day holiday are not expected to increase compared to last year. Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of Sigo Vietnam Co., Ltd., said that rental prices will increase by 50% for the two holidays of May 1st and 2nd. For customers renting a car for four consecutive days, including both holidays, the regular daily rate will apply.

Up to this point, Sigo Vietnam’s car rental service has only recorded around 20% of its booking capacity

According to the reporter’s findings, the majority of renters opt for 2-3 day packages and travel short distances. Those wishing to travel long distances or return to their hometowns for an extended period typically avoid renting cars due to the high cost and instead opt for alternative modes of transportation such as airplanes, buses, or one-way car rentals. Mr. Chu Phat Dat (Ibookcar car rental app) stated that this year, the majority of customers have booked rentals within three days of the holiday (from April 27th to 29th) in order to take advantage of regular daily rates.
