NAPAS, Mastercard, and Payoo have joined forces to launch a long-term strategy aimed at supporting vulnerable women in society. This program, now in its second year, is a testament to their commitment to making a positive impact.

The Double Burden: Women’s Health Challenges

In modern families, women juggle multiple roles as wives, mothers, and professionals, facing immense pressure from work and social responsibilities. According to a 2022 World Bank Vietnam survey, women spend significantly more time on household chores than men, with an average of 3 hours daily compared to 1 hour and 42 minutes for men. Consequently, nearly a third of women in Vietnam have no leisure time for themselves. This “double burden” leads to a lack of rest and self-care, negatively affecting their health.

For vulnerable women facing economic hardships, single mothers, or those serving as the primary breadwinners, these challenges are amplified. Many women often neglect their health, prioritizing countless other “duties” first. Additionally, the high cost of medical screenings and a lack of medical knowledge create barriers, preventing them from accessing periodic health check-ups. As a result, they are at a higher risk of developing chronic illnesses, especially cancer, as they enter their 40s.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, accounting for 25.8% of cases. Cervical cancer, which accounts for about 12%, is the second leading cause of death after breast cancer. Ovarian and thyroid cancers are also prevalent among women. Sadly, 50-80% of cancer patients in Vietnam are diagnosed in stages 3 and 4. However, with modern medical advancements, many cancers can be treated with a 90-99% survival rate if detected and treated early.

Empowering Women through Free Cancer Screening

All women deserve to be healthy, both physically and mentally. A healthy body enables women to better care for their families and contribute to society. Understanding this, NAPAS, Mastercard, and Payoo have chosen to celebrate Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20th by launching a social welfare program focused on women’s health. This initiative aims to honor the role and contributions of women while spreading a message of love and care.

Last year’s program, themed “Touch to Pay, Send Love,” featured flower and food stalls offering items for VND 50,000 each. The proceeds were used to provide 50 new wigs to breast cancer patients at the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital.

Building on this success, this year’s program, themed “Touch to Share, Give Hope,” aims to provide free cancer screening opportunities for 2,010 vulnerable women in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Specifically, NAPAS and Mastercard will contribute VND 2,010 for each contactless transaction at Payoo partner stores and VND 20,100 for each social media share about the program with the hashtag #chamsechia. The more the program is shared, the more women can benefit from free cancer screening.

In collaboration with the Red Cross Societies of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the program will identify vulnerable women aged 35-60 who work in low-income jobs, are single mothers, have disabilities, or are the primary breadwinners in their families. These women, who have suspected health issues but lack the means to seek medical attention, will be prioritized for screening on Vietnamese Women’s Day, October 20th.

Every woman is a beautiful flower that deserves love and respect. The “Touch to Share, Give Hope” program sends a powerful message of empowerment and support, helping women overcome challenges and positively impacting the community.

Individuals can help spread the word and contribute to the cause by following these simple steps:

Step 1: Visit the program’s homepage

Step 2: Create and download a personalized postcard following the instructions

Step 3: Share the postcard on Facebook publicly, along with the hashtag #chamsechia

It only takes a few seconds to complete these steps, but it will contribute VND 20,100 and bring hope and health protection to thousands of vulnerable women.
