The road surface of National Highway 217 and National Highway 45 in Vinh Loc district is cracked, sunken, and waterlogged during rainy seasons – Illustrative image
The Ministry of Transport has just sent a document to the National Assembly Delegation of Thanh Hoa province, responding to the voters’ recommendations of this province on the treatment of drainage systems of national highways in the area to ensure traffic safety.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the road surface of National Highway 217 and National Highway 45 in Vinh Loc district, which passes through populous areas, is cracked, sunken, and waterlogged during the rainy season.
To address this issue, the Ministry of Transport has approved the repair of several items in the national highway maintenance plan for 2024.
Specifically, on National Highway 217, repairs will be made to the foundation, road surface, and drainage system at certain sections. The project commenced on May 4, 2024, and is expected to be completed by September 2024.
Similarly, on National Highway 45, repairs will be carried out on the damaged foundation and road surface, and the longitudinal ditches along certain sections will be improved. The project started in July 2024 and is expected to be completed within the year.
Once the above maintenance items are completed, it will help address the issue of road degradation and improve drainage along National Highway 217 and National Highway 45 in Vinh Loc district.
The road management agency will continue to monitor and inspect the area, and if necessary, take appropriate measures to further improve the drainage system, thus addressing the voters’ concerns.
Regarding the upgrade and improvement of these roads using capital investment construction funds, the Ministry of Transport has sent a document to the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance, proposing a project to upgrade and improve national highways (National Highway 279, 4H, and 217) connecting to North Laos and China, using loans from the World Bank.
For National Highway 45, the Ministry of Transport has assigned Project Management Unit 6 to research and develop a pre-feasibility report for the project to improve and upgrade National Highway 45 in the provinces of Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa.
Once the above projects are approved by the competent authorities, the Ministry of Transport will request the project owners to develop investment plans to improve the road foundation, surface, and drainage system, including the sections passing through Vinh Loc district, Thanh Hoa province, as mentioned by the voters.
