In a notice released this morning (Aug 23), HAGL announced an adjustment to the contract terms with their youth academy players.
“To attract talented young players to our academy and provide them with opportunities to pursue their football careers, effective August 22, 2024, the academy will sign training contracts with new students, including a clause to serve Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club after completing their training until the age of 24 (instead of 28 as in the previous training contract).”
This is an unprecedented move since the establishment of the academy by Chairman Duc. Previously, players from the first intake, such as Cong Phuong and Xuan Truong, were all contracted to HAGL until the age of 28.

The extension of the youth contract until the age of 28 significantly impacts the players, especially regarding their income. Typically, players at other clubs can sign professional contracts and receive substantial signing bonuses at age 25, while HAGL players have to wait until they turn 28.
This change in contract terms could help the HAGL academy attract more “rough diamonds” and improve the quality of youth development. With the rise of other academies across the country, families now have more options, and this move is seen as necessary to stay competitive.
