In a recent announcement on their Facebook fanpage, electric motorcycle manufacturer Selex Motors revealed that they have officially begun exporting their Selex Camel electric motorcycle, along with its ecosystem and infrastructure for battery swapping and energy sharing, to the Philippines.

This marks the company’s first step towards international expansion. Selex Motors, founded in 2018, has been focused on developing smart electric vehicles and battery technology, initially targeting the logistics industry—a sector with a high demand for cost-efficient transportation solutions.

“Logistics will be the first and earliest industry to accept the transition to electric vehicles,” said Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuoc Nguyen, Co-founder & CEO of Selex Motors.

With this goal in mind, Selex Motors launched the Selex Camel electric motorcycle in November 2022, specifically designed for delivery services. The startup proudly introduces it as “the first electric pickup motorcycle in Southeast Asia.”

The Selex Camel has a payload capacity of 225 kg, 50% higher than conventional motorcycles, while offering 25-35% fuel cost savings and 50% maintenance cost savings. It is equipped with up to 3 battery packs, providing a maximum range of 150 km, and is capable of wading through water and navigating typical slopes, such as bridges and tunnels.

Selex Motors’ electric vehicle ecosystem comprises four main components: the Selex Camel motorcycle, Selex batteries, automated battery swapping stations, and an app that manages the entire ecosystem.

The key feature of this ecosystem is the battery-swapping solution, which eliminates the need for lengthy charging times. With Selex Motors’ system, users can simply swap a fully charged battery at a station in just 2 minutes using the app. According to the company’s website, Selex Motors currently operates 71 battery-swapping stations nationwide.

The company’s electric motorcycle and lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing facility has an annual capacity of 20,000 vehicles and 100,000 battery packs, respectively. Their products are manufactured with over 70% localization.

Looking ahead, Selex Motors aims to expand its battery-swapping network and develop new vehicle models targeting various segments. The company also has plans to enter other Southeast Asian markets in the coming years.
