Installation of the 32,000-tonne Long Thanh Airport Passenger Terminal Roof
On August 25, according to the Management Board of the Long Thanh International Airport (IA) Project, the construction unit has started installing the steel structure roof of the airport’s passenger terminal, a top priority item of the passenger terminal package – considered the “heart” of the airport.
The construction of the steel structure roof of the terminal (under Package 5.10) is valued at approximately VND 3,500 billion, accounting for about 10% of the contract value (VND 35,000 billion) of the Long Thanh International Airport Passenger Terminal Project, Phase 1.
The construction items of the passenger terminal include a one-basement, three-storey structure, with a roof height of 45.55m. The terminal is designed with separate arrival and departure levels, with a total floor area of approximately 376,451 sq m. 40 parking positions are arranged for Code C, E, and F aircraft.

Despite facing challenges due to weather conditions, nearly 2,500 personnel, including experts, engineers, architects, and skilled workers, along with about 2,000 machinery and equipment, have been tirelessly working to ensure the project’s progress. Security and labor safety were also tightly controlled, ensuring absolute safety on the construction site.
Commenced on August 31, 2023, after more than 11 months of implementation, the project, considered the “heart” of Long Thanh Airport, has officially been topped out by the contractor consortium, marking the final touch before the completion of the project.
The topping-out ceremony is not only a proud milestone for the project but also demonstrates the determination and effort of the contractor consortium in following the Prime Minister’s instructions. The team has overcome weather challenges and worked continuously in “three shifts and four crews,” always in the spirit of “eating hastily and sleeping urgently,” to complete this century project.

The terminal now presents a different scene with solid concrete blocks taking shape. “With the current progress, it is expected that on September 2, 2026, the first commercial flight will take off from Long Thanh Airport,” said Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Airports Corporation, in Giao Thong newspaper.
Long Thanh International Airport is a key national project, a special-grade construction, and plays a crucial role in the development of the Southern Key Economic Region and Vietnam. The passenger terminal is the largest package in terms of scale, the most technically complex, and with the longest construction period.
