Determination to complete Tan Son Nhat T3 Terminal by April 30, 2025
According to the Ministry of Transport, the investment project for the construction of Tan Son Nhat T3 Terminal has been approved by the Prime Minister. The investor, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), has approved the project with a total investment of VND 10,873 billion.
The project has a capacity of 20 million passengers per year and synchronous auxiliary works, serving domestic exploitation at Tan Son Nhat Airport, meeting the requirements of exploitation, in accordance with the planning and allocation of exploitation output between Long Thanh International Airport and Tan Son Nhat, reducing overload for the currently overloaded T1 Terminal.
The project also improves the quality of passenger service with a construction period of 24 months, starting from the date of site handover and commencement of construction.
Due to obstacles in site clearance work, the project started in December 2022 and was only able to commence the main package “Construction and Equipment Installation of T3 Passenger Terminal” on August 31, 2023. The contract takes effect from October 15, 2023. The construction period according to the contract is 20 months, completing on June 15, 2025.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed during his visit and worked at the construction site on February 12, 2024, to shorten the project implementation schedule and complete it before April 30, 2025, to celebrate 50 years of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
Currently, the rough construction has been completed, and the work on architectural, construction, interior, and equipment installation is being expedited, with overall progress reaching approximately 70% of the entire project. The investor ACV, contractors, and consulting units have concentrated all resources, redefined the schedule, and proposed construction solutions to shorten the schedule by 2 months compared to the contract, determined to bring the project to the finish line by April 30, 2025, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
Long Thanh Airport Passenger Terminal to be operational by September 2, 2026
Regarding the investment project for the construction of Long Thanh International Airport, according to the Ministry of Transport, based on Resolution No. 3 of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister approved 4 investment projects for the construction of phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport with a total investment of VND 109,111,742 billion (USD 4,664.89 million).
Specifically, the project is divided into 4 component projects, including: Component project 1 – State management agency works; Component project 2 – Air traffic control works; Component project 3 – Essential works in the airport; and Component project 4 – Other works.
Among these, component project 3 is the main component project with ACV as the investor and a total investment of VND 99,019.26 billion. With the progress schedule of the Long Thanh International Airport project focusing on the passenger terminal and runway, the investor, contractors, and consulting units have concentrated all resources to review, research, and propose construction solutions to determine to shorten the schedule by nearly 3 months compared to the contract.
The goal is to complete the passenger terminal before August 31, 2026, to put it into operation on the occasion of the National Day celebration on September 2, 2026.
At the same time, shortening the schedule by 3 months compared to the contract for the runway construction, ensuring the technical operation of the runway before April 30, 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025).
During the implementation process, the Prime Minister – Head of the National Steering Committee for important national projects and key transport projects, holds regular meetings to inspect and urge the progress.
In addition, the Prime Minister has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha as the head of the task force for the investment project for the construction of Long Thanh International Airport. The members of the task force include leaders of ministries and sectors: State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of National Defense, People’s Committee of Dong Nai province, and People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
The task force regularly monitors and handles obstacles during the implementation process, providing support to speed up the project’s progress.
“The Ministry of Transport, as the standing agency of the Steering Committee and the task force, updates the implementation progress of the component projects, summarizes the difficulties and obstacles in the process, and promptly reports to the Steering Committee and the task force for consideration and resolution,” said the Ministry of Transport.
