In recent news, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung has registered to sell one million shares of Joint Stock Company COTANA (HNX: CSC) between August 29 and September 28. As a result, the female entrepreneur will reduce her shareholding from 4.7 million units (equivalent to a 12.5% ownership stake) to over 3.7 million units (a 9.8% stake).

Prior to this, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung had registered to sell 500,000 CSC shares. However, due to unfavorable market conditions, the shareholder has only sold 300,000 shares thus far. Furthermore, in 2023, Ms. Dung had registered to sell CSC shares on two separate occasions but was unable to complete the transactions due to similar reasons.

Calculated based on the closing price of VND 28,300 per share on August 29, Ms. Dung could potentially earn nearly VND 27 billion from this transaction.

Currently, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung is the second-largest shareholder in COTANA, after Mr. Dao Ngoc Thanh, the Chairman of the Board of Directors. In terms of their relationship, she is the mother of Ms. Nguyen Do Hoang Lan, who was recently appointed as a Member of the Board of Directors of COTANA at the 2024 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders. Additionally, Ms. Dung is the wife of Mr. Nguyen Do Lang, who served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of COTANA from 2014 to 2024.

At present, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung’s family holds over five million CSC shares, equivalent to approximately 13.4% of the capital. Ms. Nguyen Do Hoang Lan, Ms. Dung’s daughter and a member of COTANA’s management team, does not own any CSC shares.

In addition to COTANA, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung also holds a significant number of shares in other businesses within the APEC ecosystem founded by Mr. Nguyen Do Lang. As of June 30, 2024, Ms. Dung holds 8.3 million API shares of Asia-Pacific Investment Joint Stock Company and nearly 1.7 million APS shares of Asia-Pacific Securities Joint Stock Company.

Based on the current market prices of the shares, and including the CSC shares, Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung’s total assets are estimated to be over VND 222 billion.

It is worth noting that Ms. Huynh Thi Mai Dung and her husband, Mr. Nguyen Do Lang, were both arrested and prosecuted in a criminal case of “stock market manipulation” that took place within the APEC group in June 2023.

Despite the prosecution, the couple has resurfaced in recent times. In May 2024, Mr. Nguyen Do Lang made a surprising appearance at the 2024 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders of API, attracting attention.

“You all know what happened, it was a very unexpected accident. We didn’t do it, it was a few employees who placed the orders,” shared Mr. Nguyen Do Lang with the shareholders. According to Mr. Lang, there will be an official announcement soon, and he will await the decision of the legal authorities, hoping for a favorable outcome.

“I have also stated that if it must be attributed to APEC, it was only a few employees who inadvertently made such mistakes. What has happened has happened, and I hope it will be resolved smoothly. We should now focus on our main tasks,” added Mr. Lang.
