MG7

The latest car model to be launched in Vietnam is the MG7, which was introduced to the market on August 28. This is one of the most anticipated models for local customers, as dealers have been teasing and announcing the car’s launch schedule since last year.

There are three versions of the MG7 sold in Vietnam. The standard version is priced at 739 million VND (approximately $31,500). The two higher-end versions are priced at 898 million VND (approximately $38,200) and 1.018 billion VND (approximately $43,300) respectively.

The MG7 has a similar size to other sedans in the D-segment, such as the Toyota Camry, Mazda6, or Kia K5. The car’s exterior stands out with its coupe-like sports design, large 19-inch wheels, and electronic spoiler.

The interior of the MG7 is packed with modern features, including a large dual-screen setup, Bose speakers, a sporty steering wheel with integrated buttons, electronic parking brakes, an electronic gear selector, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a panoramic sunroof, to name a few.

The top-of-the-line model is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that produces 227 horsepower, paired with an 8-speed transmission. On the other hand, the 1.5L turbocharged engine generates 167 horsepower.

In terms of safety technology, the MG7 boasts a 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) features.

Suzuki XL7 Hybrid

The Suzuki XL7 is the only non-Chinese model in this group. It has been introduced to Vietnam with upgraded features, essentially a mild facelift. The price of the car starts at 599.9 million VND (approximately $25,500).

On the outside, the 2024 XL7 differs from the previous model with a new logo at the front and some black-painted details. Additionally, a few new two-tone color options have been added to the palette.

Some of the upgrades found in the 2024 XL7 include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a new instrument cluster interface, automatic LED headlights, power-folding mirrors, and cruise control.

Under the hood, the XL7 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain similar to that of the Ertiga, featuring a 1.5L engine paired with a small electric motor for added boost. The transmission remains a 4-speed unit.

GAC M8

The GAC M8 is a new minivan from China, and it doesn’t come cheap. The standard model is priced at 1.699 billion VND (approximately $72,200), while the top-of-the-line version costs 2.199 billion VND (approximately $93,500), rivaling the price of the German VW Viloran.

The M8 has a large footprint, measuring 5,215 mm in length. Its design is highlighted by a prominent grille at the front. The overall shape resembles that of the Toyota Alphard, and the side doors are of the sliding type.

The M8 impresses with its luxurious interior, featuring second-row captain’s chairs with heating, cooling, and 10-point massage functions that can be adjusted for intensity. Up front, there are dual screens measuring 12.3 inches and 14.6 inches, respectively. The panoramic sunroof creates a stunning starry sky effect.

Performance-wise, the M8 is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that generates an impressive 248 horsepower. The 8-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth and responsive shifting.

In terms of safety, the M8 stands out with its ADAS package and 360-degree camera system.

GAC GS8

The GAC GS8 is more affordable and is an SUV. Pricing starts at 1.269 billion VND (approximately $54,000), while the top-end model is priced at 1.369 billion VND (approximately $58,400). These price points are comparable to those of the Ford Everest.

The GS8 features a unique design compared to the M8, despite sharing the same brand. The front end is characterized by prominent headlights with four lenses. The grille is large but more compact than the one found on the M8. Depending on the trim level, the GS8 rides on either 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.

The interior of the GS8 shares many similarities with the M8, including the 12.3-inch and 14.6-inch dual screens, an 8-speaker audio system, and tri-zone automatic climate control. A panoramic sunroof is also part of the package.

Under the hood, the GS8 shares the same powertrain as the M8, producing 248 horsepower. The 8-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels only, as all-wheel drive is not offered.

In terms of technology, the GS8 mirrors the M8 with its ADAS package.
