On August 29th, the Haiphong City People’s Committee Office issued Notification No. 422/TB-VP, concluding Mr. Nguyen Van Tung’s – Chairman of the Haiphong City People’s Committee – investment policy on constructing Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge, parallel to the existing Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Sea Bridge, the longest sea bridge in Vietnam.
Specifically, after hearing reports from the Haiphong City Department of Transport, the consulting unit, and considering the opinions of related departments, sectors, agencies, and localities, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the Haiphong City People’s Committee, agreed to the investment policy on the construction of Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge and its approach roads.
The Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge will be 5,443 meters long and 16 meters wide, with land clearance following the approved plan (road width of 68 meters). The central reservation will remain unchanged, and the road will be widened on both sides, with a total road width of 51 meters. Simultaneously, three grade-separated intersections will be built.
The Chairman of the Haiphong City People’s Committee assigned the City Department of Transport to instruct the consulting unit to finalize the project proposal and study an alternative option, which involves investing only in the Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge while maintaining the existing approach roads. Afterward, the consulting unit will evaluate, compare, propose, and report to the City People’s Committee.
The Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Sea Bridge, connecting the mainland in Hai An District and Cat Hai Island in Cat Hai District, Haiphong, was inaugurated and put into use on the occasion of the National Day, September 2, 2017. Up to now, it remains the longest sea bridge in Vietnam.
However, after the Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Bridge was put into use, and with the inauguration of two ports at Haiphong International Gateway Port, along with the development of tourism on Cat Ba Island and industry on Cat Hai Island, the bridge has been overloaded.
On July 2, 2018, at a teleconference of the Government leader with localities, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the Haiphong City People’s Committee, proposed to the Government to allow the city to build another sea bridge connecting the mainland to Cat Hai Island (Tan Vu-Lach Huyen 2 Bridge).
