Over the past few days, the Embassy of Vietnam in many countries has celebrated the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2024).
VIETNAM-LAOS FRATERNAL SOLIDARITY AND COMPREHENSIVE COOPERATION
On the evening of August 30, in Vientiane, the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos held a grand reception to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2024).
Speaking at the ceremony, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos, Phan Minh Chien, recalled the heroic historical milestones of the Vietnamese nation over the past 79 years; happily and proudly noting that in the past year, the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos continued to develop, going deeper and becoming more effective. Political and diplomatic relations continued to thrive with the highest level of trust and closeness, marked by official and working visits of the high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and countries. Security and defense cooperation has become increasingly tight-knit, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order in each country.
The Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people always deeply understand that in the cause of building and defending the country, for Vietnam to have “the power, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today,” besides its own efforts, Vietnam has always received the valuable support and assistance of international friends, especially the great, wholehearted, and compassionate help of the Lao Party, State, and people.
On this grand occasion, on behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Vietnam in Laos expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Lao Party, State, and people for their solidarity, support, and assistance; thanked countries and international friends for always sharing and assisting Vietnam and supporting the development of Vietnam-Laos relations; and expressed his hope that the international community would continue to give more support and assistance to Vietnam and the Vietnam-Laos relationship so that they can develop sustainably, contributing positively to building the ASEAN Community and to peace, security, stability, and cooperative development in the region and the world.
VIETNAM-CAMBODIA RELATIONS CONTINUE TO GROW AND EXPAND
On the evening of August 30, at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra Hotel, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Kingdom of Cambodia solemnly celebrated the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2024) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2024).
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang highlighted the glorious milestones of the country, especially on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang reviewed the great achievements that Vietnam has attained in various fields over the 79 years of struggle for national independence, construction, and development of the country, and implementation of the innovation process. Today, Vietnam is continuing to promote the industrialization and modernization of the country, realizing the goal of building a Vietnam of “a rich people, a strong country, and a democratic, equitable, and civilized society,” becoming a high middle-income country by 2030 and a developed and high-income country by 2045.
Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang expressed his belief that Vietnam-Cambodia relations, with the motto of “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability,” will continue to grow stronger, developing vigorously for the benefit of the two peoples, and contributing positively to the ASEAN Community, as well as peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang also expressed his sincere gratitude to the generations of leaders and the people of Cambodia, along with all international friends, for their valuable support and cooperation with the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence in the past, as well as in the cause of national construction and development today.
GRAND CELEBRATION OF THE 79TH NATIONAL DAY IN CHINA
On August 28, in Beijing, the Embassy of Vietnam in China solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day, with the participation of Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chen Xiaodong, leaders of ministries, branches, experts, scholars, Chinese press agencies, ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Beijing, representatives of businesses, and the Vietnamese community in China.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai reviewed the historical milestones in the development journey of the country over the past 79 years.
From a poor and backward economy, ravaged by war, Vietnam has made great efforts to rise, expand international integration, and become a dynamic developing economy, contributing proactively, responsibly, and actively to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
Regarding Vietnam-China relations, Ambassador Pham Sao Mai affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to consolidating and developing a stable and healthy relationship with China. She noted that in the past time, Vietnam-China relations have made many profound, substantive, and comprehensive developments in all fields. High-level contacts have taken place regularly, especially the recent state visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam from August 18-20.
The highest leaders of the two Parties and countries have reached important common perceptions on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, promoting the building of a Vietnam-China Community with a “stable, healthy, and sustainable” orientation according to the “six good” direction. Economic, trade, investment, cultural, educational, and tourism cooperation continue to develop and achieve encouraging results.
The two sides coordinate closely to maintain peace, stability, and cooperation for development at the land border; at the same time, maintain channels of dialogue and negotiation, and strive to control disagreements at sea on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
CELEBRATING THE 79TH NATIONAL DAY OF VIETNAM IN THAILAND
On the evening of August 29, in Bangkok, the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand held a solemn ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the September 2nd National Day.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung said that over the past 79 years, with the spirit of “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” and with the aspiration to realize the goal of “a rich people, a strong country, and a democratic, equitable, and civilized society,” under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people have resolutely protected national independence, striving to build Vietnam into a country of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, a beautiful, safe, and friendly destination, rich in hospitality.
Ambassador Pham Viet Hung affirmed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations (1976-2024), the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership has been continuously developing closely and reliably, bringing benefits to the people of the two countries and making active contributions to the common future of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and the world.
Ambassador Pham Viet Hung affirmed his commitment to cooperating closely with Thai colleagues, partners, and friends to protect the common achievements of the two sides, while expanding and deepening the friendship, trust, and mutual understanding, enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation, promoting prosperity and happiness for the people, and contributing to peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.
AFFIRMING THE IMPORTANT PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN VIETNAM AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC
On August 29, in Prague, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2024).
In his opening speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam highlighted the profound meaning of President Ho Chi Minh’s Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, affirming that values such as the right to life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness of the Vietnamese people are still guaranteed up to now. Although after gaining independence, the country faced many challenges, with the spirit of great national unity, Vietnam has always moved forward and has established trade relations with more than 220 partners and cooperated with more than 500 international organizations.
Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam also highly appreciated the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, a relationship based on mutual respect and cooperation for the common benefit of the two peoples. The ambassador believed that the relationship between the two countries is being consolidated and developed through the maintenance of high-level delegation exchanges, most recently the visit to Vietnam by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala in April 2023. The ambassador expressed his belief that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to have high-level visits on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2025).
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Senate of the Czech Republic Miloš Vystrčil expressed his admiration and appreciation for Vietnam’s heroic history, as well as the growing relationship between the two countries in recent times, despite the geographical distance and cultural differences. The Senate President recalled the important milestones in the bilateral relationship since the early 1950s during the time of Czechoslovakia, in which Czechoslovakia was the fourth country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Mr. Miloš Vystrčil also said that during his visit to Vietnam in 2023, Prime Minister Petr Fiala proposed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2025, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
AFFIRMING THE SOLID RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VIETNAM AND BRAZIL
On August 29, the Embassy of Vietnam in Brazil held a solemn ceremony to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day and 55 years of implementing the Testament of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital Brasilia, with the participation of Ambassador Piragibe dos Santos Tarragô, Special Envoy of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with 250 guests from ministries, branches, the diplomatic corps, and Brazilian friends.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi affirmed that over the past 79 years, the Vietnamese nation has gone through a historical journey full of difficulties and hardships but also of glory and pride. Under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party, the Vietnamese people united as one to stand up for national independence in 1945. After 30 years of arduous struggle, the Vietnamese people completed the national democratic revolution and reunified the country in 1975. Following President Ho Chi Minh’s Testament, the Vietnamese people continued the cause of building socialism.
Ambassador Bui Van Nghi highly appreciated the positive cooperation and development in various fields between Vietnam and Brazil. In 2024, the two countries celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 17th anniversary of the comprehensive partnership. In 2023, Vietnam-Brazil trade turnover reached over US$7.11 billion, of which Vietnam imported goods worth US$4.7 billion and exported over US$2.4 billion. In the first seven months of this year, two-way trade between the two countries reached nearly US$4.6 billion, up 19% over the same period in 2023; of which Vietnam’s exports to Brazil reached US$1.53 billion, up 3.9%, and imports from Brazil reached US$3.06 billion, up 28.3%.
On behalf of the Brazilian government, Ambassador Tarragô emphasized that throughout its proud history, Vietnam has been an inspiration for all nations in the world in the cause of protecting independence, freedom, and national development, while highly appreciating the extremely solid relationship between the two countries. Vietnam is an important partner of Brazil and plays a key role in expanding relations between the South American country and ASEAN members.
