Celebrating National Independence: Local Communities Spark Joy with Festive Events.

On September 1st, numerous provinces and cities across the nation commemorated the National Day celebration of September 2nd with a variety of festive activities and events.

Celebrating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2024) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2024), events in localities took place on September 1-2 to attract domestic and international tourists.

AO DAI PARADE CONNECTING HANOI TOURISM AND HERITAGE

On the morning of September 1st, Hanoi Department of Tourism, in coordination with the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the Vietnamese Communal House Club, organized an ao dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress) parade program called “Ao Dai Connects Hanoi Tourism and Heritage in 2024”

The program, lasting from 5:30 am to 8:45 am on the same day, started from the Thang Long Royal Citadel Relic Site. More than 100 men and women in traditional ao dai participated in the parade through the streets of Hanoi, covering many tourist attractions such as the Thang Long Royal Citadel, the Monument to Heroic Martyrs, Ba Dinh Square, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the National Assembly House, the Presidential Palace, the North Gate, the Hang Dau Water Tower, Long Bien Bridge, O Quan Chuong Gate, Dong Xuan Market, and Hanoi Flag Tower. The journey ended at Doan Mon Gate, located within the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

The program attracted the participation of officials and civil servants from agencies and units in Hanoi, along with a large number of local people, and international friends.

This event aimed to promote and introduce Hanoi’s tourist destinations. It also offered a new experiential activity that attracted numerous domestic and international tourists to the capital city, thus stimulating tourism.

Combining cycling and wearing the ao dai to explore the representative cultural heritage sites in Hanoi carries profound meanings, helping to connect tourism and heritage in a unique and effective way. It also honors the traditional and modern beauty of the ao dai and connects tourists with the heritage.

This new experiential activity will attract a large number of domestic and international tourists to Hanoi, promoting and honoring the traditional ao dai associated with heritage and tourism. It will also help preserve and develop the traditional cultural values of the nation, providing an opportunity to promote and introduce Hanoi’s tourist destinations.

The event also served as an opening ceremony for a series of programs within the framework of the “Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival in 2024,” connecting the ao dai with the capital’s heritage and tourist attractions.

“HOA LU MARATHON 2024 – LAND OF MILLENNIAL HERITAGE” RACE

On September 1, at the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Relic Site in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Provincial Young Business Association, organized the “Hoa Lu Marathon 2024 – Land of Millennial Heritage” race.

The race was held on the occasion of the September 2nd National Day holiday, carrying the message of “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s call for the whole nation to exercise”. It attracted more than 1,500 athletes from provinces and cities nationwide, as well as foreign athletes, competing in three distances of 3km, 5km, and 10km.

The Hoa Lu Marathon 2024 route passed by many famous landscapes of Ninh Binh such as the Ancient Capital of Hoa Lu, the Trang An Scenic Complex, and other unique and pristine natural landscapes within the Trang An Heritage Site. This event offered an opportunity for athletes to discover unforgettable cultural and natural heritages with each step they took.

Mr. Le Minh Tho, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Young Business Association and Vice Chairman of the Race Organizing Committee, shared that the Hoa Lu Marathon 2024 was not just about conquering a distance but also about connecting souls and evoking pride in the traditions and history of Vietnam.

The event also aimed to encourage people to improve their health and promote the sports movement in the community. It was also an occasion to spread love and compassion, honoring, promoting, and preserving the valuable heritage of the ancient capital of Hoa Lu.

On this occasion, the organizers presented 21 scholarships to students with difficult circumstances in the province, 150 gifts to families of martyrs in Ninh Binh province, and 300 gifts to families with revolutionary merits and difficult circumstances in Hoa Lu district.

FIRST-EVER KITE FESTIVAL IN HA LONG CITY

On the morning of September 1st, an artistic performance using a hot air balloon to fly the sacred national flag (100m2 in size) over the 30/10 Square to celebrate the National Day of September 2 marked the official opening of the Kite Festival. The image of the national flag proudly flying over the Square symbolized national pride and the happiness of all participants.

This event celebrated the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2nd); it also commemorated 30 years since Ha Long Bay was first recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site (December 1994).

The Kite Festival, organized for the first time by Ha Long City, aimed to realize the project “Ha Long – The City of Festivals.” It aimed to create attractive tourism products in the city to attract tourists and promote the image of Ha Long as a city of heritage, culture, and friendly people to the domestic and international community, creating a positive impact for future festivals.

The festival featured 20 colorful hot air balloons of various sizes for display and experience. Within the framework of the festival, there were diverse activities such as tethered balloon rides, balloon interior visits, balloon light shows, ground-decorated balloons, and paramotor displays.

Through this festival, the city hoped to bring impressive and unforgettable experiences to the people and tourists, allowing them to admire the beautiful and majestic scenery of Ha Long City and Ha Long Bay from above. It also offered a vibrant and exciting atmosphere with light shows, music, and artistic performances.

During the holiday, Ha Long City and Quang Ninh province hosted a series of cultural and sports events, providing visitors with unique and fascinating experiences. These events served as a bridge to promote the tourism values of Quang Ninh, introducing its diverse, appealing, and distinctive tourism products to domestic and international friends.

BOAT RACING FESTIVAL ON NHAT LE RIVER

On September 1st, at the historical relic of Quan Hau ferry, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province, the Boat Racing Festival on the Nhat Le River took place with the participation of 19 boats from 13 communes and towns. There were 11 male boat teams and 8 female boat teams, with a total of 450 athletes competing. The male teams raced in a 15km distance, while the female teams competed in a 7.5km distance. The female teams competed in one round, and the male teams were divided into A and B rankings based on the results of the preliminary rounds to advance to the final round.

The Boat Racing Festival on the Nhat Le River, recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022, is a beautiful feature in the cultural and sports life of the people of Quang Ninh district. With a history of over 500 years, the festival has become a unique traditional cultural event for the local community.

Every year, on the occasion of National Day (September 2), Quang Ninh district holds a boat racing festival to promote the revolutionary tradition and heroic spirit, foster solidarity and community bonding, and create a joyful atmosphere, contributing to the development of the region.

This event also attracts local people, friends, and tourists from all over the country, helping to promote tourism activities and drive the socio-economic development of the region.

On September 2, a traditional swimming festival will be held in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.
