The Second Chance: A Plea for Leniency for Ms. Nguyễn Phương Hằng
Mrs. Nguyen Phuong Hang, CEO of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company, is currently serving her sentence with approximately 3 months and 24 days left. Despite rumors circulating on social media, Mrs. Hang has been proposed a reduction of 24 days and is yet to return home for the recent 2nd of September holiday.
Rumors have been circulating on social media platforms for the past two weeks regarding Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang, the CEO of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company, being pardoned and returning home just in time for the September 2nd celebrations. These rumors have sparked curiosity among many individuals.
On August 31st, Mr. Huynh Uy Dung, Ms. Hang’s husband, confirmed that as of that date, his wife was still serving her sentence and had not returned home. According to Mr. Dung, the images and videos circulating on social media are fabricated by individuals with malicious intentions or those seeking attention. They are, in fact, old photos and videos of Ms. Hang from before her incarceration.
According to our journalist’s findings, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang is currently serving her sentence at An Phuoc Prison, which is under the management of the Department of Prison Management, the Bureau of Mandatory Education, and Reform Schools (Ministry of Public Security) in Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province.
Ms. Hang has three months and twenty-four days left of her sentence to serve. Sources revealed that for this year’s September 2, National Day celebrations, An Phuoc Prison submitted a proposal to the Department of Prison Management to consider reducing Ms. Hang’s sentence by 24 days.
Regarding the National Day pardon for this year, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang does not meet the requirements to be eligible for it.
Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City High-Level People’s Court sentenced Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang to two years and nine months in prison for “Taking advantage of democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals.”
