SYM has recently filed for a design patent for a new motorcycle model, as published in Volume 2 of the Official Gazette No. 437, Series A, dated August 2024, by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office. Based on the revealed images, this model is likely the highly popular SYM VF3i 185 from Malaysia.

The SYM VF3i 185 is a sporty underbone motorcycle with a striking design. Its exterior features bold, angular lines and a sharp, high-mounted tail. The bike also sports a contrasting color scheme, adding to its unique appeal.

With a seat height of 790mm, a ground clearance of 150mm, and a weight of 124kg, the VF3i 185 offers a stable and confident ride, even at higher speeds.

One of the most impressive features of the SYM VF 185 is its dual-channel ABS, ensuring safer braking at high speeds. In comparison, rivals like the Winner X and Exciter 155 offer single-channel ABS on the front wheel only. Additionally, the lighting system has been upgraded to LED technology, replacing the previous halogen setup.

Other notable specifications of the SYM VF3i 185 include a modern instrument cluster, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and 17-inch cast wheels with 120/70 and 90/80 tires. The suspension setup comprises inverted forks at the front and a Monoshock absorber at the rear.

Performance-wise, the SYM VF3i 185 is equipped with a 185cc engine, a single-cam SOHC design with four valves and electronic fuel injection, liquid-cooled. It delivers a maximum power output of 19.7 hp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 17.4 Nm at 7,500 rpm.

When compared to its competitors, the Yamaha Exciter 155 with 17.7 hp at 9,500 rpm and the Honda Winner X with 15.4 hp at 9,000 rpm, the SYM VF3i 185 offers superior performance figures.

The SYM VF 185 outperforms both the Honda Winner X and Yamaha Exciter 155 VVA in terms of engine specifications, and its design is equally sporty and aggressive. However, if launched in Vietnam, this motorcycle would require riders to possess an A2 license due to its manual clutch configuration.

In Malaysia, the SYM VF3i 185 is priced at 9,338 RM, which converts to approximately 53.7 million VND. Given the lack of brand recognition in Vietnam, the bike is expected to be priced competitively if launched in the local market.
