The Rice Masters: Meet Vietnam’s Top 4 Rice Entrepreneurs with a Multi-Million Dollar Revenue

These are the exceptional rice farmers of the Mekong Delta.

On behalf of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association (VFA) Central Committee, on August 20, Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the VFA Central Committee, and head of the “Proud to Be a Vietnamese Farmer” Program Steering Committee for 2024, signed Decision No. 777-QD/HNDTW to honor 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers for the year.

The 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers for 2024 are divided into four groups based on their achievements in agricultural production, business, and services; contributions to new rural construction movements; achievements in safeguarding national security; and innovations in agricultural production.

Among the 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers for 2024, four are rice farmers from the Mekong Delta region who have been honored.

First is farmer Nguyen Thanh Tuan from Kien Giang province. Mr. Tuan cultivated over 500 hectares of rice, generating an economic efficiency of up to VND 29 billion per year. After deducting expenses, his profit from rice farming reached VND 14 billion per year. In addition, Mr. Tuan also engaged in the business of providing agricultural machinery and services, earning a profit of nearly VND 2.2 billion per year.

Second is farmer Le Thanh Long from An Giang province, who cultivates 80 hectares of rice with a turnover of over VND 8.9 billion per year and a profit of more than VND 4.8 billion per year.

Third, farmer Ho Ba Phieu from Can Tho city, planted 12 hectares of high-quality rice such as OM5451, OM18, and Jasmine 85. Mr. Phieu’s rice farming generated a turnover of more than VND 4.4 billion and a profit of VND 2.6 billion. Additionally, he provided processing, packaging, and rice seed services, earning a turnover of VND 28.2 billion. After deducting expenses, his profit was VND 5.2 billion.

Fourth is farmer Tram Minh Thuan from Tra Vinh province. He cultivated approximately 220 hectares of rice using organic methods and high-quality rice varieties like ST25, while also engaging in the business of supplying agricultural inputs and purchasing rice from farmers. As a result, during the period from 2019 to 2024, Mr. Thuan’s business generated a turnover of VND 22 billion and a profit of VND 4.9 billion.

Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers in 2024 Achieved a Turnover of Nearly VND 100 Billion per Year

Among the 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers honored this year, the individual with the highest turnover was Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh from Van Thai village, Cam Van commune, Cam Giang district, Hai Duong province, with an annual turnover of VND 95 billion. According to Dan Viet Newspaper, starting from a small agricultural product processing workshop established in the early 1990s, Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh has now developed a large-scale processing and exporting enterprise.

In May 2009, Mr. Menh decided to establish Tan Huong Agricultural Product Processing JSC. The company specializes in producing and trading over 30 products of vegetables and fruits, such as carrots, onions, garlic, and chili, both fresh and dried. They have nearly 40 partners across the country.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Menh’s company provides stable employment for 100 workers, with an average salary of VND 7.5 million per person per month, excluding 120 seasonal workers.

On the other hand, the Vietnamese farmer with the highest profit is Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhu from Ben Tre province. It is known that after much exploration and learning to apply in farming, Mr. Nhu now has 18 hectares of white-legged shrimp farming, with a production capacity of up to 400 tons per year and a total turnover of VND 45 billion. After deducting expenses, his profit reached VND 20.5 billion.

Not only has he developed his family’s economy, but the outstanding farmer with the highest profit in 2024 has also created jobs for 25 local workers and actively contributed funds to build social welfare works in the area…

In October, the Vietnam Farmers’ Association Central Committee will organize a series of “Proud to Be a Vietnamese Farmer” activities, including the 9th National Farmers’ Forum in 2024, with the theme “President of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association – Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development: Listening to Farmers’ Voices.”

This is the first time that the two leaders of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have co-chaired a forum to listen to the thoughts and wishes of the farmers.

The Vietnam Farmers’ Association Central Committee will also hold a ceremony to honor the 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers and commend 63 typical cooperatives, along with various other activities.
