The Ultimate Labor of Dedication: 8,000 Workers Persevere Through Holidays at the Long Thanh Airport Construction Site.

The contractors have mobilized an army of over 8,000 workers and an array of machinery to simultaneously undertake the four massive contracts at Long Thanh Airport. These contracts encompass the construction of a passenger terminal, a runway, two connecting transport routes, and an air traffic control tower.

Construction is in full swing at the Long Thanh International Airport, with contractors mobilizing their workforce and resources to ensure the timely completion of this national key project.

The passenger terminal, spanning approximately 376,000 square meters, has seen the completion of its steel-framed columns and floor beams, with the commencement of steel structure installation.

While construction proceeds, contractors are also placing orders for equipment and engaging suppliers to manufacture and fabricate components according to the set schedule. It is anticipated that the entire terminal will be completed by August 31, 2026, with the contracting joint venture aiming to shorten the construction period by 20-30 days compared to the contract duration.

In terms of the construction of Runway 1 (phase 1), the joint venture contractors are striving to expedite progress.

The precision approach path indicator system has already been manufactured and will be transported to Vietnam in October, with installation scheduled for December. The contractors are committed to completing the runway by April 30, 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Son, a worker from Nghe An province, shared that he has been dedicated to the runway construction project since its inception, choosing to stay on-site during holidays and festivals.

Regarding the two connecting roads, the contractors are currently spreading crushed rock and commencing cement-treated base trials. As of now, approximately 55% of the work has been completed, and the roads are expected to be open to traffic by the end of 2025.

The air traffic control tower, standing at a total height of 123 meters, will see the completion of its concrete structure in September 2024, followed by the installation of steel structures and equipment. The contractors are striving to substantially complete the tower by April 30, 2025, to facilitate calibration flights.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan, Deputy Director in charge of Package 5.10 of the Long Thanh International Airport Project, shared, “We are working around the clock in three shifts, even during holidays and festivals, to ensure the project stays on schedule. As this is a national key project, our team is dedicated to setting aside personal matters to focus on delivering this significant infrastructure development.”
