The Ultimate September Unveiling: The All-New Santa Fe and Triton, Set to Take the Vietnamese Market by Storm

A host of notable new car models are set to arrive in Vietnam in September, marking the beginning of the bustling year-end shopping season. What's particularly noteworthy is that two new-generation models are set to be launched in the same month, making it an exciting time for car enthusiasts in the country.

Kia Carnival

Some dealerships have taken deposits for the 2024 Kia Carnival, offering direct discounts of 10-20 million VND off the selling price. Sales consultants have also revealed that the traditional engine version is expected to launch by the end of September, with the hybrid version following in October.

This information has not been confirmed by THACO Auto. However, the 2024 Kia Carnival has been spotted at the Vehicle Emission Testing Center for Road Vehicles in Hanoi. Although the front and rear of the car were heavily covered, it was still recognizable as the upgraded Carnival model.

The 2024 Kia Carnival may not retain the same selling price. According to sales consultants, the price could increase by about 100-120 million VND compared to the current distribution version (1.189 billion to 1.759 billion VND).

The hybrid version is expected to launch later.

The 2024 Kia Carnival was globally launched in October 2023 and has already made its way to some other Southeast Asian countries like Singapore. Being a facelift, the changes are not drastic, but the most notable addition is the hybrid engine option, similar to the Sorento. Additionally, there are some minor tweaks to the exterior, including new vertically positioned headlights, a larger grille, L-shaped taillights, and new rims.

Hyundai Santa Fe

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has been spotted at an emission testing center, heavily camouflaged. Dealerships have also started taking deposits for the new model, indicating that its launch is imminent. According to plans, the new-generation Santa Fe will be launched in Vietnam in September and deliveries will begin by the end of the month.

While the pricing has not been announced yet, a sales consultant expects a “bia kèm lạc” (literally “beer with peanuts”, meaning “buy one, get one free”) situation in the initial phase. Additionally, the diesel engine option may be discontinued, leaving only the gasoline (2.5L and 2.5L turbo) and hybrid options. Similar to the Kia Carnival, the gasoline-powered version is likely to be launched first.

As a new-generation model, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe boasts significant changes in both its appearance and technology. Based on the markets where the 2024 Santa Fe has already been introduced, the 2.5L gasoline engine now delivers more power: 191 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. If offered, the 2.5L turbocharged gasoline engine will produce 277 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. It will be available with either front-wheel drive or Htrac all-wheel drive. The car’s safety features are expected to include ADAS.

Mitsubishi Triton

While the launch of the Santa Fe and Carnival is still in the “expected” stage, the debut date for the Mitsubishi Triton has been officially set for September 11. The company has been taking deposits since August 12.

With the launch date just around the corner, it’s no surprise that the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton has been spotted undergoing road tests and emission testing in Hanoi. Based on the captured images, the new Triton will have at least three variants, distinguishable by their exterior features such as lights, rims, bumpers, and grilles.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton is a new-generation model, built on a new frame, and designed with a more boxy look. Based on the model launched in Thailand and the Philippines, the interior of the Triton has undergone a complete transformation.

The engine is likely to remain the 2.4L diesel engine, producing 184 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission in the highest trim. However, there is a change in the compression ratio. The model sold in Thailand also offers a 2.4L twin-turbocharged engine with 204 horsepower, but it’s unclear if this option will be available in Vietnam.

Another significant change in the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton sold in Vietnam is the inclusion of more advanced ADAS safety features.

Honda Civic

On August 9, Honda announced that it is taking orders for the 2024 Honda Civic nationwide. This is a mid-life upgrade of the 11th-generation Honda Civic, which was launched in Vietnam in February 2022. The company has not announced the official launch date, but some sales consultants have revealed that it is likely to be in September.

The hybrid engine is expected to be the most notable feature of the 2024 Honda Civic in Vietnam.

The biggest difference in the 2024 Honda Civic for the Vietnamese market is expected to be the addition of a hybrid engine option. The hybrid version, named Civic e:HEV RS, combines a 2.0L gasoline engine with an electric motor to deliver a maximum output of 200 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. Currently, in the same segment, only the Toyota Corolla Altis offers a hybrid option.

The other two versions, the Civic RS and Civic L, will continue to use the familiar 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine, producing a maximum output of 176 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.

All three versions are equipped with the Honda Sensing safety technology package and active safety features such as rear-distance sensors and six airbags. The RS and e:HEV RS versions also come with the Honda CONNECT telematics system and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. The e:HEV RS version further adds active noise cancellation and a personalized driving mode.

Omoda C5

According to the distributor of the Omoda & Jaecoo brand, the Omoda C5 will be available for sale in the fourth quarter of 2024, and the price will be announced at that time. Some sources suggest that the launch could take place as early as September.

While the price has not been revealed, Omoda & Jaecoo may follow the common pricing strategy of many Chinese car brands, offering competitive prices to attract a wider range of customers. And once the factory in Thai Binh is completed (phase 1 is expected to be finished in 2025), the prices are expected to become even more attractive.

Additionally, a 10-year or 1,000,000 km engine warranty is another advantage of the C5 when competing in the segment with rivals like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Honda HR-V.

Nissan Almera

The mid-life upgrade of the Nissan Almera was expected to be launched in August or September 2024, according to dealership sources. Obviously, the August deadline was not met, so it is likely that the car will be introduced to Vietnamese consumers in September.

Dealerships have started taking deposits, expecting three versions similar to the previous model, with prices not exceeding the old one.

In terms of design, the 2024 Nissan Almera doesn’t differ much from its predecessor, featuring only minor changes to the grille and rims. The most notable addition is the inclusion of cruise control, a center armrest in the front row, and wireless charging. However, it still lacks ADAS, which is already available in competitors like the Hyundai Accent, Honda City, and Toyota Vios.
