This decision comes as ACV is expediting the progress of its key project, the Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh Airport), which is considered the main growth driver for Vietnam’s aviation industry in the next decade.

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh

Mr. Thanh, born in 1963, holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He has been the Chairman of ACV since mid-2017, after serving as the Director of Vietnam Aviation.

Under his leadership, ACV has experienced a phase of business growth and stability, except for the years 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, in the most recent financial year, ACV achieved impressive results with a record-high net profit of nearly VND 8,460 billion.

Business Performance of ACV since 2017

ACV’s record-breaking journey continued into 2024. In the first six months, the management giant of 22 airports recorded revenue of over VND 11,200 billion, a nearly 16% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, net profit surged by 45% to VND 4,240 billion, the highest six-month profit ever achieved by ACV.

This growth reflects the strong recovery of the tourism and aviation industries post-pandemic, especially the return of international travelers. In the first half of the year, Vietnamese airports served nearly 20.3 million international passengers, a 40% increase compared to the previous year.

Before his departure, Mr. Thanh left a significant mark on the Long Thanh Airport project. On August 30, 2024, ACV signed a contract with the Incheon Airport consortium for airport management and operation consulting services. Previously, he had declared, “By September 2, 2026, Long Thanh Airport will welcome its first commercial flight.”

With Mr. Thanh stepping down from the Chairman position, the ACV Board of Directors now comprises six members, including Messrs. Vu The Phiet, Dao Viet Dung, Le Van Khien, Nguyen Ngoc Quy, and Ms. Le Thi Dieu Thuy, and Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong. The enterprise has not yet announced Mr. Thanh’s successor.
