The Van Phong – Nha Trang expressway, spanning over 83 kilometers, traverses Ninh Hoa town and three districts of Van Ninh, Khanh Vinh, and Dien Khanh in Khanh Hoa Province. With a total investment of nearly VND 12 trillion, the project commenced construction in early 2023, under the management of Project Management Unit 7, which operates under the Ministry of Transport.

The Van Phong – Nha Trang expressway is designed to feature four lanes, a width of 17 meters, and a maximum speed limit of 90 kilometers per hour.

According to the contractor, the construction of the bridge could only be approached from a single direction due to challenging accessibility, and materials could not be transported because of the mountainous terrain. To expedite progress, the contractor opted to cast the beams on-site, thereby reducing transportation time.

The expressway project navigates through complex terrain, requiring construction across mountains and forests. The entire route includes 34 bridges, among which the two longest are the 17-span Khanh Binh Bridge and the 11-span Ninh Than Bridge.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dong, representative of the management unit for the Van Phong – Nha Trang expressway project, more than 300 workers are present on the construction site daily, along with mobilized equipment to ensure continuous work even during the recent 2/9 holiday.

Mr. Truong Anh Dai, Deputy Commander of the project’s contractor, shared that they mobilize approximately 450 personnel daily, divided into three shifts and four teams, along with machinery and equipment to ensure uninterrupted work on the construction site.

While the project encountered challenges with land clearance, the issue has been resolved. Along the route, 2,774 households have handed over the cleared land to the construction unit, achieving a 100% clearance rate. To date, the construction of all six resettlement areas has been completed, and land allocation and lotteries for the households have been organized.

Mr. Dang Van Dung, Executive Director of the Van Phong – Nha Trang Expressway Project, shared that the project is on track with the set plan. The contractors are committed to construction deployment, closely following the adjusted schedule, with the goal of substantially completing the project before April 30, 2025.

For this project, the investor has recorded a land retrieval of 616 hectares, impacting 2,790 households. As of the end of August, approval, payment, and land handover have been completed for 83.35/83.35 kilometers, achieving a 100% rate for the main line.

Currently, there is still a portion of supplementary land retrieval pending for the construction of ridge grooves, talus slopes, and some locations for overhead bridge crossings that have not been handed over to the construction unit. Additionally, the expressway route is expected to relocate some technical infrastructure in the upcoming time.
