According to information from the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center and the Weather Warning Center, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) announced that the affected airports include: Van Don International Airport, Cat Bi International Airport, Noi Bai International Airport, and Tho Xuan Airport. For Vinh Airport and Dien Bien Airport, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, and they should remain vigilant and prepared for any unusual developments of the storm.
To proactively respond to Storm No. 3 and ensure the safety of aviation operations, personnel, and property at airports, while minimizing disruptions to flight operations, the CAAV has instructed relevant agencies and units to maintain 24-hour shifts and strictly adhere to the Procedure for Responding to Storms and Tropical Depressions in Civil Aviation.
Regarding the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), the CAAV has instructed them to direct meteorological units to enhance the quality of meteorological information; continuously monitor weather conditions within their areas of responsibility; and promptly provide observed, forecasted, and warned information to users.
For airports, airlines, and air navigation service providers, the CAAV has instructed them to strengthen coordination and closely monitor the progress of Storm No. 3 to adjust flight plans or change flight schedules accordingly in areas directly affected by Storm Yagi, ensuring the safety of flight operations.
It is necessary to implement measures to prevent flooding and storms, mitigate flooding in airports, protect infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles at airports, minimize damage caused by storms, and quickly stabilize aviation operations to meet the needs of passengers, especially at affected airports such as Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Vinh, Tho Xuan, and Dien Bien.
According to the assessment of the Aviation Meteorology Center – Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, after passing Leizhou Peninsula and Hainan Island (China), Storm No. 3 will weaken and continue to move northwest. It is forecasted that from 7 am to 8 am on September 7, Storm No. 3 will enter Hanoi FIR Subdivision 2 with near-center wind speed up to Level 12 and make landfall in the area from Quang Ninh to Thai Binh.
Under the influence of Storm No. 3, from the night of September 6 to the end of the night of September 8, Hanoi FIR Subdivisions 1 and 2 will experience cloudy conditions, with visibility occasionally reduced to 1 km during the storm, accompanied by strong gusts and turbulence. Van Don and Cat Bi Airports will be affected by the storm from the night of September 6 to the night of September 7, with visibility potentially dropping to 1 km during the storm, along with strong wind gusts. Noi Bai and Tho Xuan Airports will be impacted by the storm from the afternoon of September 7 to the night of September 7, with visibility occasionally reduced to 1.5 km during the storm, along with strong wind gusts.
