On September 4th, representatives from the Traffic Police Department announced that the Ministry of Public Security has approved the plan for the 5th auction of vehicle license plates, with 388,389 car license plates up for grabs.
The plates will be listed for one month, starting tomorrow (September 5th), for citizens to choose from. The list includes all 63 provinces and cities, with over 56,000 plates from Hanoi and nearly 54,000 from Ho Chi Minh City.

The starting price for each plate remains at VND 40 million, with a minimum increment of VND 5 million. For each successfully auctioned car license plate, the auction service fee paid to the asset auction organization is 8% of the starting price. In addition to the service fee, the auction fee paid to the asset auction organization is VND 10,000 per car license plate offered for auction.
According to regulations, during the auction process, the unit assigned to inspect, supervise information security, ensure network security, and prevent intrusion is the Department of Cyber Security and Prevention of High-Tech Crime, the Department of Telecommunications and Cipher, the Department of Information Technology, and the Department of Technical Services – Ministry of Public Security.
As of September 4th, a total of 1,268,852 plates have been auctioned, with 35,563 successful auctions and a total auction value of over VND 3,281 billion. The total amount paid by the winning bidders is VND 3,026 billion.
Previously, some plates were auctioned for very high prices, such as: 51K-88888 for over VND 15 billion; 30K-55555 for nearly VND 14.5 billion; 11A-11111 for nearly VND 8.8 billion, and so on.
