According to the General Statistics Office, in August, the country had 13,400 newly established enterprises with a registered capital of more than VND 124,600 billion and nearly 71,800 registered employees, down 15.2% in the number of enterprises, down 6.2% in registered capital, and down 12.1% in the number of employees compared to July 2024.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of newly established enterprises decreased by 12.8%, registered capital decreased by 16.2%, and the number of employees decreased by 22.6%.

The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in August was VND 9.3 billion, up 24.4% compared to the previous month but down 3.9% over the same period last year. Besides, nearly 8,500 businesses resumed operations, up 12.7% from the previous month and 35.6% from August 2023.

In the first eight months of 2024, the country had nearly 110,800 newly registered enterprises with a total registered capital of VND 994,700 billion and a total registered labor force of over 672,400 employees. This reflects an increase of 4.4% in the number of enterprises, 0.7% in registered capital, and a decrease of 1.9% in the number of employees compared to the same period last year. The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the first eight months of 2024 reached VND 9.0 billion, down 3.6% from the same period in 2023.

Newly Established and Dissolved Enterprises in the First Eight Months of 2024 by Sector

The total additional registered capital in the economy in the first eight months of 2024 was over VND 2,041,000 billion, down 5.1% from the same period in 2023. In addition, more than 57,300 businesses resumed operations (up 25.3% over the same period in 2023), bringing the total number of newly established and resumed businesses in the first eight months of 2024 to nearly 168,100 enterprises, an increase of 12.5% over the same period in 2023. On average, more than 21,000 businesses were established or resumed operations each month.

In terms of economic sectors, from January to August 2024, there were 1,090 newly established enterprises in the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector, down 3.7% from the same period last year; 25,700 enterprises in the industry and construction sector, up 1.4%; and nearly 84,000 enterprises in the service sector, up 5.5%.

Also, in August, 5,334 enterprises registered for a temporary business suspension, down 1.6% from the previous month and up 3.0% from August 2023; 5,160 enterprises temporarily ceased operations, pending dissolution procedures, down 4.5%, and down 1.1%; and 1,927 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 11.4% and 26.0%.

In the first eight months of 2024, 82,800 enterprises temporarily suspended their business operations, up 15.3% from the previous year; nearly 38,700 enterprises temporarily ceased operations, pending dissolution procedures, down 5.8%; and 13,800 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 18.0%. On average, 16,900 businesses withdrew from the market each month.

Number of Newly Established Businesses and Registered Capital Both Rise in First Four Months of the Year

In the first four months of the year, 51.6 thousand new businesses were registered nationwide with a total capital of nearly VND 508 trillion, representing a 3.4% increase in the number of businesses and a 9.3% increase in registered capital.
