On the afternoon of September 6, the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) Vietnam held a press conference to introduce the 101st meeting of ASEAN BAC and its activities for 2024.

This event marks a significant step in ASEAN BAC Vietnam’s efforts to foster regional economic collaboration and enhance the role of Vietnamese businesses on the global stage.

During the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of ASEAN BAC Vietnam, shared that ASEAN BAC was established in April 2003 by the decision of ASEAN leaders. Its mandate is to advance economic integration within the region. ASEAN BAC serves as a bridge between the business community and ASEAN leaders, providing recommendations to promote regional economic cooperation.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of ASEAN BAC Vietnam, chaired the press conference.

Currently, ASEAN BAC Vietnam has three official members appointed by the Prime Minister. They are Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of ASEAN BAC Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Chairwoman of BRG Group and member of ASEAN BAC Vietnam; and Mr. Than Duc Viet, General Director of Garment Corporation 10 and member of ASEAN BAC Vietnam.

The Chairman of ASEAN BAC Vietnam informed that in 2024, the 101st meeting of ASEAN BAC will take place from September 13 to 14 in Hanoi. This event will bring together ASEAN BAC members, who are prominent business leaders and representatives of reputable trade and investment promotion organizations in the region. They will discuss the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS); the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA); ASEAN BAC’s heritage projects; preparations for reports to ASEAN leaders and ASEAN Economic Ministers; and the plan for ASEAN BAC 2025.

Moreover, to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and its important partners, ASEAN BAC will also organize the 24th meeting of the Joint Business Council (JBC 24) to engage with members of the JBC (comprising 10 key partners of ASEAN BAC: Australia, Canada, China, the EU, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, the UK, and the USA).

The JBC meeting will discuss significant events during Laos’ chairmanship of ASEAN BAC. Delegates will also deliberate on issues of concern to the business community, such as trade and investment, digital transformation, green economy and energy transition, and supply chain connectivity.

“ASEAN BAC 101 and JBC 24 present an opportunity for Vietnam to proactively promote regional economic cooperation and facilitate the integration of Vietnamese businesses into the ASEAN economic community,” emphasized Mr. Vinh.

Notably, during the meeting, the Chairpersons of ASEAN BAC from different countries are expected to meet with the Prime Minister of Vietnam to report on the Council’s major activities and invite the Prime Minister to attend and address the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2024, which will be held in October 2024 in Vientiane, Laos.

Additionally, with the theme “ASEAN Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” ASEAN BAC will organize several important events in 2024. These include the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) 2024, scheduled from October 8 to 11 in Vientiane, Laos; the launch of the ASEAN Business Awards (ABA) 2024 in June, with the awards ceremony taking place in October; and the annual dialogue between ASEAN leaders and ASEAN BAC members during the ASEAN Summit week to discuss and make crucial economic decisions for the region.

Mr. Vinh emphasized that active participation in these activities would not only elevate the position of Vietnamese businesses in the region but also create opportunities for sustainable cooperation and development in the future.
