Prime Minister: Proposing a Goal to Rank Our Country Among the Top 30-35 Largest Economies Globally

On the morning of September 9, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Sub-Committee for Socio-Economic Affairs of the 14th National Congress of the Party, chaired a meeting of the Government's Standing Committee with the Standing Committee of the Socio-Economic Sub-Committee.

The meeting offered opinions on the draft report assessing the 5-year implementation of the 10-year 2021-2030 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, as well as the socio-economic development orientations and tasks for the 2026-2030 period.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Ministers Nguyen Hoa Binh, Le Thanh Long, Ho Duc Phoc, and Bui Thanh Son, along with leaders of ministries, sectors, and localities who are members of the Socio-Economic Sub-Committee.

At the meeting, delegates reported, discussed, and provided additional inputs to further refine the contents of the draft report assessing the 5-year implementation of the 10-year 2021-2030 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, as well as the socio-economic development orientations and tasks for the 2026-2030 period, following the feedback received from the Politburo.

The report clarifies the leadership, management, direction, and administration of the Party, State, National Assembly, and Government in the country’s socio-economic development process. It highlights the achievements, especially the key indicators and notable accomplishments of the term, along with the challenges, limitations, and underlying reasons for both the achievements and shortcomings. The report also presents lessons learned and outlines the main tasks, solutions, breakthroughs, and focal points to promote socio-economic development in the next 5 years to fulfill the goals set by the 10-year 2021-2030 Socio-Economic Development Strategy.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Socio-Economic Sub-Committee, highly appreciated the preparations made by the Sub-Committee’s standing members and the sincere, responsible, and comprehensive contributions of the delegates. He instructed the standing members to incorporate the feedback received from the Politburo and the delegates to further refine the draft report before seeking additional feedback from the Politburo and presenting it at the upcoming 10th Plenum of the Party Central Committee. The report will then be submitted to the Party Congresses at various levels and finally to the 14th National Party Congress.

In assessing the 5-year implementation of the 10-year 2021-2030 Socio-Economic Development Strategy, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to deepen the analysis of the achievements, especially given the numerous difficulties, challenges, and complex developments in the world. This will help showcase the confidence, unity, innovation, and proactive approach of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Party Secretariat, the National Assembly, and the Government in their leadership, direction, and administration. It will also demonstrate the appropriateness of the goals and solutions put forth, the high determination and great efforts in implementation, along with vigorous inspection, supervision, and problem-solving to advance the country and address emerging issues.

Regarding the socio-economic development orientations and tasks for the 2026-2030 period, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh instructed the incorporation of the concept of “stability for development.” He emphasized the need for innovative thinking in all areas, ensuring a forward-looking and breakthrough approach, especially in perfecting the socialist-oriented market economic institution. He also stressed the importance of focusing on key areas, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring feasibility in implementation. The Prime Minister proposed the goal of advancing our country to the group of 30 to 35 largest economies in the world, belonging to the upper-middle-income group.
