On September 4, 2024, the Southern Economic Cooperative Alliance signed a strategic cooperation agreement with GSM to lease and purchase 5,000 VinFast electric vehicles in 2024, aiming to gradually replace their existing fleet of gasoline-powered cars.
As per the agreement, the Alliance will take immediate delivery of 1,000 VinFast electric cars in September and October 2024. The remaining vehicles will be delivered by GSM and VinFast in the last two months of the year.
These vehicles will be used by the Alliance’s members to provide transportation services, replacing their current gasoline-powered cars. The Alliance’s future goal is to go completely green, replacing 100% of its members’ cars with electric vehicles, and investing in charging stations and infrastructure to meet maintenance and repair requirements for electric vehicles.
With approximately 55,000 members, the Southern Economic Cooperative Alliance is currently the largest taxi cooperative in Vietnam, accounting for about 70% of the market share. Recognizing the growing trend of electric vehicles and their economic, health, and environmental benefits, the Alliance has decided to encourage its members to go green by leasing and purchasing VinFast electric cars from GSM for their business operations. At present, thousands of the Alliance’s members are already using VinFast vehicles to provide services on various ride-hailing platforms, especially the Xanh SM Platform.

The decision of Vietnam’s largest taxi cooperative to go green showcases a strong shift towards electric vehicles. Prior to the Southern Economic Cooperative Alliance, Dong Thuy Co., Ltd. – the owner of the Lado Taxi brand – signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase and lease an additional 2,500 VinFast electric vehicles over three years from GSM.
In 2024, 500 VF 5 electric cars purchased and leased from GSM will be added to Lado’s existing fleet in Lam Dong, Binh Dinh, and Binh Thuan provinces, and they will also commence operations in Dong Nai province. This increases Lado’s total electric taxi fleet to nearly 1,000 VinFast vehicles. The remaining 2,000 cars will be delivered by GSM to Lado gradually in 2025 and 2026.
In 2023, Sun Taxi Joint Stock Company signed a contract to purchase 3,000 VF 5 Plus electric cars from VinFast, launching their electric taxi service in several provinces and cities, including Quang Binh, Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province), Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan province), Gia Lai, and Kon Tum. By 2025, all 3,000 VinFast electric cars in Sun Taxi’s fleet are expected to be on the road.
